Do you have the activation code? Usually you can use the license thingy on more than one computer for Microsoft products.
not sure, havent touched them in ages
I would have to check later to be sure.Did it come with your computer preinstalled? Does it have "OEM" on the box anywhere? -
windows 98 on a end generation rig ? would be funny.
Anyway any operating system can be put into an image, (look at .iso on google) then you just backup all your system into a new computer. That way you'll keep your Os + your files + your games so you wont have to reinstall everything. -

im on a macbook pro. both my desktops are ****ed -
I would not buy vista if my life depended on it. First off, post the specs of this new pc you are building. Then we can better suggest an operating system for you. Windows XP is still the most stable operating system out however, it can't fully utilize the newest hardware. Also, I would never recommend getting vista. Vista is sort of like windows ME. It was rushed out to showcase new features and in turn, had major issues. It was not optimized to run smoothly. Service packs have come out to fix some of these problems, however Windows 7 is a much more polished Vista.

just wondering how good this is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103351
Not good. The build you posted is much much much much better, and cheaper? This computer has integrated graphics, meaning probably the same performance as your old computer. -

If its WinXP yes you can since micrsoft has 2 new OS,(vista , win7) ,(win8 is in developement now)on the market they have loosened there validation requirements on winxp. Can i use an operating system that came with my old computer for a new computer that i will build. Or would i need to buy a new one? -

my other old pc came with windows xp, idk if it was preinstalled -
Use any pirate's version. Why not? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AzpByR3MvI
That's agains't the rules.
2: Xp is better due to the fact vista is a performance eater, it's a piece of **** from Windows, but at least the support is good. Xp is good for the performance, and w7 is the support of vista, with the performance of xp with a new design ^^
3: you can't buy xp/vista anymore.
4: You can keep your Actual os by using a ghostimage.
5: xp might be around 40-50$ if you find it in some shop.
