well i was thinking about a ati radeon hd 6870 with 8gb or ram
6870 is a good card. You don't need 8GB of ram, get 4GB and get a better power supply such as a Corsair or a Seasonic if you don't already have one.
With a 6870 and a i5/i7 2500k, I estimate you'll be getting around 200-300fps in this game. With Fraps? that depends on the settings, but roughly in the 100's. -
I always wonder about the tastylimes fakes who give bad advices. I recommend you to buy 8GB as planed. Not because you will urgently need it but because RAM prices are about to rise again and you won't get 8GB as cheap as it is right now again. To buy RAM is always a good idea because more programs can save data there. So when you start the same programs repeatedly you will notice that it will start faster when you launch it the 2nd time.

I currently have CF, Firefox, Steam, XFire, MSN, mIRC, iTunes, Skype, Anitvirus and Antimalware scans going on along with every other service running in the background such as CCC (for my GFX) + all the windows stuff running (obviously) and still using only 2.7gb of RAM out of 4.
By the time he really needs 8GB, he will have enough money to buy more RAM from finding pennies off the floor. -

Bad advice? nothing uses 8GB of ram, in fact, no application even uses 4GB of ram. Buying more ram is a good idea if you're only limited to 2GB, which extra ram would improve the performance of your computer. When we're comparing 4GB with 8GB? no difference in anything. -

4GB comparing to 8GB won't change anything in terms of Fraps. Not until you actually start using more than 4GB of ram will 8GB make a difference. -
