Suddenly lagging
I usually play on Alpha server with a ping of about 74-78 on average. I upgraded my internet plan yesterday, which supposedly doubled my speed. According to speedtest.net, my download speed is about 3.25 mb/s and my ping is 22ms, which is faster than what I had before. But now, on alpha server, my ping stays constantly at around 148.
Why is that? Since I upgraded my internet speed, shouldn't I have the opposite result? Please shed some light on this.
Thanks

sometimes when you upgrade your internet it actually slows it down, depends on your modem, internet type, how well the internet was installed. if you're overburdening the modem then you might actually weaken the power.
i have basic 6mb service with my cable, i got 4 up and 20 down speed with a 24 ping i think. though if you have dsl, you have my pitty. best way to get that to work properly is to make sure there's no more than 1 splice in the connection after it enters your house, if there's more you'll have all kinds of problems -
oh my lord, you UPGRADED to a 3MB connection?? What were you on before????
Anywhoo.....Let's talk speed issues. I work for an ISP in the US and I get speed calls on a fairly regular basis.
1. Are you making a wireless connection or are you connected with an ethernet cable to your modem? A physical connection is almost always faster than a wireless connection.
2. What kid of modem do you have? Most modems have a page you can use to check the signals. For example my old Motorola SB5101 allowed me to view its signals by going to http://192.168.100.1. (or something like that..) I could check the transmit and SNR to see if anything was out of whack....
3. Is it really an internet issue or a computer issue? What security software are you runing? Do you use a firewall? AV and firewalls can interfere with your connection.... I am not saying to get rid of them just that they can potentially interfere.....
4. Ping other sites. Do you know how to open a command prompt and ping out? I would try pinging other sites as well as running some tracerts to see where the connection may be going south. -

Fail? firewall is not blocking any connection, even if you block, before this action he asks -

There are some firewalls that have to inspect the header of every packet that comes into a network and can get bogged down, but that is on a very large scale.
