Someone Help Me Out Here

Too lazy to search the web for a solution. Ok, so a couple of weeks ago, when I opened up Task Manager, it would open up without any problems. But now, when I TRY and open Task Manager, it doesn't open anymore. I haven't touched anything at all, it just randomly does this. All you people that know all about computers please help. ty :)

Not going to google is not lazy. If anything, it's a weak excuse to not interact with other people.

If someone asked you how much those strawberries cost in a store you worked at, would you tell them to google it if there was no price sign? No the hell you wouldn't. You'd asked your supervisor what the price was and if HE didn't know, he'd go and ask the team in charge of pricing until it was found.

Gonna be FUNNY the day your internet goes offline and you need some research done...you'll have to go to this magical place called the LIBRARY...
  • I agree. It's either a virus or malware on your computer. You can check out bleepingcomputer.com they have great info and tools for getting rid of that kind of thing!
  • you got a virus mate ;)

Lately there were a couple of viruses on this forum :/

That is a completely different scenario, pal.

Also, why do you assume I've never been to a library before? Because I prefer to use google because it's more convenient than a 45 minute walk to the nearest library, where they may not even have anything I'm looking for?
  • So uhh I see we got some arguing instead of some solutions ehh? But anyway yeah I probably do have a malware or a virus.
  • Copy pasta from some random forum when I used google

    to help me out.

If you have Windows XP Pro, there’s a nifty user interface to directly edit the setting you want to repair. Click Start, then click Run and type in gpedit.msc:
And press OK. This runs the Group Policy Editor.
Once in the Group Policy Editor, expand in turn:
    User Configuration
    Administrative Templates
    System
    Ctrl+Alt+Del Options
You should see something much like this:
Double click on Remove Task Manager to change its setting:
It should be enough to click on Not Configured and then OK and Task Manager is available once again.

If you don’t have Windows XP Pro, then you’ll need to edit the registry manually.
Click Start, then click Run, type in regedit, and click on OK.
Expand these registry keys in turn:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Software
    Microsoft
    Windows
    CurrentVersion
    Policies
    System
You should see something similar to this:
Right Click on the DisableTaskMgr item:
Click on Delete, confirm that you want to delete, and Task Manager should be available once again.
