He's better off changing his motherboard and taking advantage of the new SandyBridge i5's which demolish every other chip set on the market. Much better investment for the future, and now. -

Which would cost approximately 150 for the motherboard and about 200 for the cpu and not to mention Abe isn't the most cpu advanced (<3) so that means he'll have to pay for someone to install it if he doesn't have any computer saavy relatives. About 400 for a cpu, mobo and labor. When he could take the cheap route out

what?
firstly, who says he doesn't have that much money to spend? he clearly wants to buy a new computer for around $600 which he clearly stated, so why can't he upgrade for $300?
secondly, who pays to get computer parts installed? it isn't hard replacing your motherboard and reconnecting all your cables. -
This will be an amazing upgrade:

I added the ram assuming you didn't already have DDR3 in your previous setup. Also, that GTX460 is $50 for a limited time because it's an "open box"
SUBTOTAL: $570 -
Would this set-up be able to perform to a reasonable level on games like Crysis 2? If not, what upgrades would be necessary?
I'll post a thread later for a computer around $750, which is one tier up from this that will be able to play games like Crysis 2. -

This is the least you could pay to get a performing computer for crossfire and other general games. I'll be referencing people to this thread for now on if they're in the market for a super-budget computer that performs well. I hope everyone looking for a computer to play games posts in this thread, as I can help you and give you some valuable information.
How can I get these parts customized so that i dont have to buy it seperately and build it? I dont know/want to build my own

Oh wow... I'm still on a sapphire HD 4850 vapor-x OC and an Intel E5200 @ 2x 2.80ghz and haven't noticed problems on any game. I wonder why anyone would want a quadcore cpu except for modelling and rendering maybe.
There generally aren't too many issues with dual core processors handling gaming.
Bulletstorm is the only game I can really think of off the top of my head an older X2 can't handle without lagging. -

Final Fantasy XIV, BattleField Bad Company 2, HomeFront, Metro 2033.
I7 absolutely destroys the Intel I5
Look at what Tasty said, but read it carefully this time. -
