No Start button or Log in

When I launch the game it shows the Crossfire Rival Factions frame with an advertisement on left and a blank white tab on the right... that has a link to the forum that appears only when you hold the mouse over it (and it works taking me to the forum).
The second tab underneath the main box is also blank white and has a tab that appears only when the mouse is held over it for "register" it also works, but says I already have registered. (I even re-registered with a new email and it solved nothing... not that I want to give up on my ID that took months of work to earn rank).
There is no start button or anywhere to log in. I have uninstalled the game, used CCleaner to delete files it leaves in the registry, and deleted the Crossfire folder entirely.
Then I re-downloaded the game and re-installed it both with the auto down loader and without (following all the steps for a "clean" install each time) and still the exact same problem... NO START or LOG IN anywhere once I click the game to start.
I went as far as to install it on an external drive that never had the game before and still it does not work.
So far the only response I can get is "Please check our technical support forum" I have done this... and read a ton of problems others have had but none have solved this problem.
This has gone on a week now... please help or I will be moving on to games that are better supported.

  • hey thanks for the possible solution... however your solution doesn't support dual monitor issues that appear to cause major problems in this game.... I followed the hint however and reduced my display "text size" for windows vista and that allowed the start etc... tabs to be seen. however the game now loads with a msvcp80.dll missing file in spite of a new re-install?
although references to users zoom and resolution settings had nothing to do with it under windows vista home pro it was the text size setting that finally allowed the start tab to be seen... soon I hope to be playing again as I have on this PC for months with non of these issues (until I had to reinstall and the latest update was included)
  • I would recommend running a virus and a malware scan, I am not sure from your response if your issue is solved, but I am not very bright lol.
  • Ok after changing my settings for text size the start bar apears but now the game says missing "msvcp80.dll" I tried several downloads with all firewall options disabled and AV turned off ... with all but the most basic processes killed on my PC. The file msvcp80.dll is THERE in the crossfire folder but it still says its unable to find it????
loudermp I have good anti virus and anti malware protection ALL of which I completly disabled and restarted my PC just to attempt a "clean install"
Looks to me like something has changed in a major way as my first install of this game went without any problems and I played for months with no issues... now when i need to reinstall it lots of issues and almost zero support or help to work them out.
What is the msvcp80.dll and how can I fix the problem? I still want to play but have been unable to for over a week now? HELP!!!!
  • Well I received no help for the msvcp80.dll issue. It is its a C++ file that can become corrupted or deleted if you follow the "clean uninstall and re-install" directions. In all fairness I think its from the CCleaner deleting the registry entries which include shared files.
The only way i could fix it was to completely format and then reinstall windows vista home pro. I tried adding the .DLL to various locations and even tried to repair it with microsoft word (it also requires the file and quit working after it was deleted)...
In short it was a huge headache but at least I can play again. It would have been nice if tech support would have at least said "we cant help you" or had any response instead of just silence on the issue... now back to shooting mutants... with a vengeance :)
