Ragdoll physics
hi guys i started this thread because i want to talk about death animation in crossfire...........every time you die you fall down in the same position every time so unrealistic right? anyone here play counter-strike, where when you die you become a ragdoll and fall down like a real dead person? crossfire gets more realistic every patch like wallshots, friendly fire (only for grenades), and falling damage, but death animation is still something they should fix.............imagine dieing on stairs in crossfire, you dont fall down but just lie there half of your body floating in the air...awkward right, but with ragdoll physics you would be at the bottom of the stairs by now lol!!!! imagine dieing at the ledge of a building (downtown S&D) you would just lie there half of your body floating in mid-air....weird right, but with ragdoll physics you would be falling and hitting the ground by now lol!!!!!! (ouch)
anyone agree?
anyone agree?

Its not that simple to modify that...
Its good suggestion, but don't think will be realized...
GM's are aware of that im sure,so they know how looks when u die,but lets hope they will read this and maybe work on threads subject.
i know i was just suggesting. i would love to see ragdoll physics in crossfire soon......... -
Crossfire uses Lithtech Jupiter Extended, which supports Havok physics. Take a look
As of 2005 the latest iteration of the Lithtech engine was Jupiter Extended (or Jupiter EX for short), which was featured in F.E.A.R. and Condemned: Criminal Origins,[7] both developed by Monolith. Compared to its precursor Jupiter, the Extended version was driven by a new DirectX 9 renderer and has seen some other major advancements, including the addition of Havok physics to simulate realistic physics. Along with Havok's character dynamics, Jupiter EX includes also the "Havok Vehicle Kit", which adds support for common vehicle behavior.

I dont care what engine they use now. They can get a better one.
Remember my friends: "If there is a will, there is a way"
agreed ^^ but wouldnt that be a little complicated like changing the whole engine that runs the game it self? -

Well... they have alot of issues with the game already.
Point being made, they can start from relative scratch and make the game MUCH better, faster, cooloer, etc. -

Awwww... I wazz gonna buy a new lappy and make a fail video with ragdolls flying around and falling.... -

There is actually an un-implemented Game engine for CF JP, maybe they will be nice enough to give it to us

how much money does a new engine cost? sounds like a huge project. How much money did Z8 earn from players? why not spend a little on new engine to make game more real and fun. in this way to earn more money!!!! -
Nice idea, it would be awesome to see Halo-type deaths in this game (if you've played Halo you would know what I mean). But I think crossfire editors want to make the game as real as possible, so random rag doll deaths might not make it very realistic.

Crossfire is realistic? o..o what time period did we jump to Watson?
Besides, ragdolls are too dynamic. As if server lagg wasn't bad enough it'd have to calculate where bodies slowly crawl to from its limp state.
2 fyi's.
Ragdoll isn't completely realistic. Most games support a 'half-and-half' system because ragdolls simply god limp and nothing else.
Also, crossfire has more than 1 death animation. some are seen more than others. -

"Too dynamic" ... You can get a better game engine which can support that.
Its not that people are complaining about the repetition of the death animations, Its more like... You shoot somone, and have their body is in a wall, or floating.
I cant speak for others, But when I shoot somone, I want to see their dead body, not have it half way into a wall. -

It doesnt actually use that engine. Last I heard its just the basic Jupiter one. Ill have to double check that though. Pretty sure it is though.
For those wondering, Using the Source engine (or an engine supporting ragdoll physics) would cost alot not to mention thr labour and the costs on top of that to implement an entire new engine into an already well established game, not to mention how long it would take to do so. Developers dont tend to change an engine post-release.
Also yes you would need to reinstall.
