Just a Disgruntled Player.
Been playing Crossfire for years now, always loved this game for its Instant Action capabilities, but lately it's becoming far too big a hassle to even get IN the game.
Starting off by just clicking the icon, it takes quite a few minutes to load. My computer meets recommended requirements, I am on Windows XP SP3, and I have an extremely fast internet connection. This part doesn't bother me, just stating the above for future reference. As soon as it is done loading, I have around a 70% chance the game will load, or a 30% chance the game crashes and I have to bring up Task Manager to close it and restart the tasking process again. IF the game loads, all is well up until the Server selection screen. Once I get here, I have about a 20% chance that the game freezes on me on the "Connecting to Server" step. If I make it passed this part, all is well up until selecting a channel. Once it comes to selecting a channel, I have about a 10% chance the game, again, freezes on me and I have to do these tasking processes ALL the way from the start. I have around an overall 60% chance that the game crashes for me, and I have to restart the whole shebang from the beginning. Tried doing it four times now, and failed all four times. If I make it passed that, oh joy, onto the fun part! Actually enjoying this wonderful game**.
** Game crashes 2/10 times with some random number error followed by a "You have been disconnected from the server" message, and subsequently crashes.
Along with the aforementioned anomalies, comes the fact that the game randomly(couldn't provide a possible, fair percentage) crashes with another "You have been disconnected from the server" message. Also, very rarely, when going to the Black Market, Storage, and Item Shop, I'll recieve the above message.
A fair, also I'm sure frequently complained about feature, is the log-in and server selection timers. Log-in timer doesn't particularly bother me, I normally never get bugged by it. Server timer on the other hand, kills me frequently. I'll go get a drink while the game loads up from the log-in, see what my child wants or needs, answer a phone call or text, grab a snack, anything and come back to see the muchly-coveted message: Server Selection time exceeded, you have to do this joyful process all over!
Now I'm sure the fact that my single post will greatly affect my sway on matters such as this, but a player with one post means just as much as a player with one-thousand posts. I'm far too busy to peruse Forums frequently. I caught a moments reprieve and was able to hop on to complain.
I love Crossfire, I really do. This is a great game. You guys did an amazing job with it, but there are just quite a few bugs needing fixed. The game was made to serve people with good computers as well as those with bad computers, I.E. the general public, so why not help someone who provides you with constructive feedback? I hope to recieve a little insight on just how to fix said problems, or at the very least the knowledge I gave the Developer's a helping hand with a few bugs that they can work on fixing.
Notice how I used the term "process" quite often. No game should be considered a "process" by any player by any means. That is what it has become for me though, I love the game so I go through the process in hopes of getting on, and more oft then not fail miserably and waste more of my time.
Anyways, my ranting is over, and to whomever this may concern, thank you sincerely for looking this over completely, and sorry for the Bible. I'm an ex-Moderator Supervisor on a Forum with 20,000 plus members, quite used to writing and revising them, thank you.

you wrote all this down and report tickets are too bothersome for you? -
Although I haven't had much problems with disconnecting yet, I've seen many threads about this issue 12 hours ago, meaning you are not the only person experiencing this. I don't think it has anything to do with your computer as it seems fine, but rather the servers itself. Immediately after the April (or March, I forget) patch arrived, gameplay was harsh. My ping keep going from 6 to 12 to 52 to 300. Z8 claimed it was due to the excessive amount of players patching at the time, but never had I experienced it during previous patches. Nevertheless, I am expecting to see server maintainance sometime soon, as this is becoming a big issue.
What server do you play on? Based on another thread, someone said it may be the UK servers that are messing up. -
@loot, I'm more of a Forum guy. Not a sending in report/support tickets guy. I'm patient, if they can't get around to me, I'll send one then lol.
@3Wishes, thank you for an informational post from someone, finally. Glad to see there is at least a few mature members on this site, and not all 14 and 15 year old trolls! I normally play on Alpha, most players on all the time, better games to play most of the time. -

yeah well, in the end this could be more promising. sending requests never really worked for me.. maybe i was pressing the submit-button in a wrong way or something. -
Meh, possibly. Many things factor into why they didn't respond, one, the support ticket might have just not sent. Two, they were far too ooverwhelmed with support tickets already that a few slipped under. Three, They saw fit that the support ticket might not have given enough information. Four, Internet connections on either side might have glitched, I could go on for days with possibilities lol. It's just much easier to post a publicly readable forum post that, if enough people view and reply, it might catch a Moderator's attention. Worked on me, sure it'd work on other Moderator's as well :P.

From personal experiences, support tickets are monitored by gorillas with the grammar of a 2 year old human.
I run Vista with a 2.2GHz Celeron, 1GB Ram...I don't really have said problems, however, there's the occasional time where my menus are incredibly "laggy"...It takes an age to join servers and rooms. I doubt it's a hardware error but my experience in PC tech isn't as good as others on this forum. As for my ping, it's 16-25 on UK servers.
Good luck in finding a solution. -

Somehting about a Bible? Lol wut?
Also, why is the public? shouldnt this be intended for the staff, not us? -
I'm a computer tech by trade so your welcome if any of this helps. First thing download superantispyware update and do a full scan, if you don't have spyware protection(not connected to your antivirus) then this will find at least a few issues. These things it finds can cause issues with other applications that access the net so be patient and run the program a couple times til it doesn't find anything.
Next download ccleaner from ccleaner.com run both the top cleaner section and the registry section takes only a couple mins.
Next download avg free and update full scan the system and restart. Once you have scanned the system fully go ahead and download smart defrag(all of this software is free) and do a optimized scan.
Finally go back into ccleaner and go to the startup section and uncheck anything not related to printer, antivirus etc and you should be good to go on the next restart.
Bottom line I hardly ever find a system that doesn't have some form of spyware/malware and often getting rid of this completely will do wonders for your system.
Peace,
Trey
Edit: After cleaning the system you might uninstall reinstall Crossfire and do a defrag if you continue to get errors. -
I have always received a prompt response from support, within 24 hrs. every time.MasterJakan wrote: »Support tickets, to me, are too bothersome. If they have the time to respond on here, they do.
