I would like to hear this live, until than it's another dragonforce, I play the drums and that sounds unrealistic, unless this guy is truly amazing, kudos to him
I also play drums, he has done it live, and it's sort of cheap, he uses a Sonor Double pedal on the left bass drum, so it's technically three bass drums, doesn't change the fact he is heeltoe'ing those pedals fast enough to hit those notes. -

yeah, i just looked up his drum set, still impressive though, i will try to learn to play this, shouldn't be to much of a strain on my legs. -
No disrespect... but if you guys play drums you don't seem to know about them, lol. His drumset is triggered, which means he has his bass drums rigged to a sound module and when they sense a vibration it produces the sound, meaning no matter how hard or soft he's playing it's going to produce the sound at the EXACT same volume level each time. The only thing difficult about it is the speed, other than that's it's mainly simple blast beasts.
On a side note, I used to play in a band that liked to experiment deathcore / progressive metal. I don't play much anymore but I do a lot of writing for drums. -

I'm fully aware that they are triggered, however even with triggers you still have to hit the bass drum, true you don't need as much force to trigger the notes, but the fact you can move your feet at 270 bpm consistently is a feat in its own right. -

Never said it wasn't playable, lol. I will guarantee the studio version is triggered. It's A LOT easier to record and work with that kind of music with triggers.
Edit: To add to what I was implying is that triggers don't make you a bad drummer or "do the work" for you as a lot of idiots on You Tube think, it simply allows them to play at extremely high tempos without having to play themselves to death and still be able to achieve a good sound out of their drumsets. -

Oh yeah of course the studio is triggered, the notes are too evenly toned, even for a studio mix.
I was referring to it being fully playable even without triggers.
Regardless the song is quite good.
Edit: Yeah I completely hate people that say if a drum set is triggered it is terrible, I use a electric bass pad for the sole reason that I live in an apartment and noise is a concern. -
It's absolutely playable without triggers. I mean look at Derek Roddy or George Kollias or Dave Suzuki. They have You Tube videos of INSANE tempos (as in Dave Suzuki playing over 320BPM) without triggers. Does it sound the greatest? Not exactly but it's basically rubbing it in the ignorant faces of all the geniuses who say triggers make drummers bad drummers.

To be completely honest, I'd say I PREFER a triggered sound when it comes to certain types of metal. Especially when it comes to bass drum sound. This is a fine example: http://www.youtube.com/user/ploppypantsflipflop#p/u/9/3x3QWpu9iWYaMoistmuffin wrote: »Oh yeah of course the studio is triggered, the notes are too evenly toned, even for a studio mix.

See I agree, I like that instant decay hit the bass and the note is over sound, I put a towel in one of my old floor toms and used it for a bass drum for a long time just for the sound of it. -
A friend of mine used to put pillows inside his bass drum and I must say he could get very good tones out of it with them.aMoistmuffin wrote: »See I agree, I like that instant decay hit the bass and the note is over sound, I put a towel in one of my old floor toms and used it for a bass drum for a long time just for the sound of it. -

Yeah, it's great for removing those nasty overtones, ruins the sound when you're doing fast kick patterns because the sound just seems to meld together instead of being individual notes, I liked the really high tight punch sound that the floor tom gave off though. -
To give you an idea of what he did with his bass drum setup, he could get a sound somewhat close to Jason Bittner's bass drum sound on Stupid Crazy, minus the microphones and EQ of course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrn_mPnUHVA
Not quite as "meaty" and "punchy" sounding but it was surprisingly close. He actually started modeling his bass drum sounds after hearing The Power of I and I and The Idiot Box. -
Pretty nice sound, what kit was he doing it on?
I'm using an old Sonor Phonic kit that I mixed in with another Sonor kit I forgot the name of.

Can't remember the other set, may have been an entry level Performer set my dad picked up to have a full set up. -
As far as exact model and such I'm not sure but I know his kit is made by Orange County Drum and Percussion. I'll be honest they have really sick looking kits but most of the ones I've heard have sounded like garbage. That doesn't exactly mean it's the kit itself though, could be the owner of the kit not taking care or it or bothering to tune it. They have absolutely amazing sounding snares though. Really tight snares like you'd hear in a 311 song.

to be honest, the snare I use and LOVE is a 14" PDP Blackout snare.
It's extremely cheap but one of the best snares I've heard with obvious exceptions like the Black Beauty.
