Hero Mode vs. Mutation Mode
Which do you prefer? And in case you don't remember the main differences, here they are:
MM:
-1 or 2 mutants
-Low regular mutant HP, medium ZP mutant HP.
-Maiden and mutation spike much more effective, ZP gives large advantage.
-Kill = death.
-Team/self grenade damage, can suicide as last survivor.
HM:
-1 to 3 mutants, one person becomes the "hero" with an uber-gun and armor.
-High HP for all mutants. Also, damage triggers evolution, which gives more HP, almost at the same rate.
-ZP gives a slight advantage.
-HS kill = death, otherwise mutants respawn.
-No grenade damage to humans.
Personally, I much prefer MM. Almost every part of it is better then HM IMO, with the exception of the large ZP advantage. People are more likely to fight the mutants as a team instead of the camp-fest that ensues in Hero Mode, and a skilled person with a good weapon can even take down a berserker or titan by themselves. Depending on the skill level of the players, mutants have about the same chance of winning as humans do in the regular Mutation Mode, while Hero Mode is just the survivors camping and hiding until they get swarmed or found. Also, eating you're own nade as the last survivor can prove to be pretty funny, and also reduces a lot of extraneousness time searching for the last human and waiting to respawn.
As for the Hero, well, it's a nice feature in theory, but overall I would prefer to not have him. Most people can't use the FAL-custom well and end up not being helpful to the team, either by killing the mutant with a grenade so he respawns or not knowing when to switch between the gun and the grenade launcher. And the people who can use him well usually end up making the round last much longer than it needs to: fending off 5-10 mutants with a grenade launcher is fun for the Hero, but not nearly as amusing to everyone chasing him and being pushed back by a dozen undodgeable grenades. And it's even less amusing for the other 5 mutants being blocked in because the foreign preteen with 250 ping has nothing better to do than annoy people because he craves the attention he doesn't get in real life. And thats not even mentioning when the Hero is glitched in a box for the last 2 minutes of a round, getting 2k damage per nade on people that are hopelessly trying to hit him through a box so that they can just respawn.
But apparently more people still prefer Hero Mode. Most severs don't even have any regular Mutation Mode games, just seven or eight Hero Mode. In fact, even when the daily mission is regular MM, HM still outnumbers it five to one. Does anyone else prefer the original Mutation Mode over Hero mode, or am I the only one?
