Can't post to the forum with Firefox

Hi,

I'm having a problem posting to the forum with firefox.
On this computer I upgraded from ver. 3.0.19 to 3.6.13

On the other computer I upgraded from ver. 2.0.0.20 to 3.6.13 also.

These 2 computers run windows xp sp3.

I also have a Linux Ubuntu box with the latest distro release of Firefox.

With all 3 computers I am unable to post to the forums or access search features and
also the user control panel is not accesible with any version of Firefox on any of the
3 computers. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, firefox safe mode. You name it. I just
can't get firefox to utilize this forum.

I am however able to buy zp through the mall with Firefox, but I can not exchange it for
any items unless I use I.E.6.

I only use I.E.6 to get updates from microsft and is the only browser on my network that
is able to post to this forum and use the search features.

I really don't like to use Internet Explorer to browse the web because of it's detailed past
security flaws...

Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated.

  • Well it might be something you've installed with firefox (extensions) but I have no problem using firefox to post to the forums, i'm using 3.6.13 myself to post this reply. Check which plugins/extensions you have one might be causing problems.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I've already tried that.

A stock, vanilla, untouched pristine install even does the same when I install Firefox.

Just for curiosity I just tried it in a virtual machine on the Ubuntu box and recieved the same results.

I don't think it could be a network problem becuase I can access all the forum features with
internet explorer. The data packets would be the same I presume?

no problem, sorry I couldn't help you with it. It is strange that IE works and not FireFox have you tried other browsers like chrome/safari? I've never seen a problem with submitting using FireFox as it is a supported browser by vBulliten.

    It's ok. Thanks for trying.

As to your question, the answer is no.

I've not tried those alternative browsers myself. I have read about them and keep up to
date with the goings on as best I can. I've never had a need to try one of them. Up until
now I've only had the displeasure of using I.E. and when netscape navigator came out I
switched to it and it got bloated not long after and when firefox was realeased I switched
to it and never looked back.

The only sad thing about running a windows system is that you're dependent on internet
explorer for it's updates, unless you use automatic updates, but then still you don't get to
see the other updates that are released for software, beta, etc.

I was really happy with Firefox 1 and 2. 3 came out and they've changed a lot of things.
Now this last version come out and my main gripe is the little resizer grabby in the lower right
corner... It's gone now in full window mode because they said that was a bug. lol.

Anyhow guess I'm stuck with I.E. if i want to post something here. I really don't need one of
those other browsers to help clutter up my system. Until now Firefox has handled everything
I've thrown at it and I've been lucky to solve any problems that have arrisen with it since I
started using it. Just wish the developers would leave it alone and stop changing the
    interface.

You seen the new beta4? Yuck..... Think I'll be using one of the version 3's for many years
to come. I like push buttons and an interface I can see what is going on.... say not like
having no status bar in Firefox beta4...

    Peace out.

I have found a solution! I used the Firefox profile manager and made a new
default profile and that allows you to have several different profiles of Firefox :) .
Now with the new vanilla profile I am able to access the website properly.

    This is what you do.

    1. Make a new shortcut on your desktop to the file firefox.exe from the firefox
directory. Mine is located here "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

    2. Edit the Target line on the shortcut properties sheet so it looks like this.
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -ProfileManager
(make sure there is a space between the last quote and the minus digit)
Click apply and ok to close the property sheet.

3.Run the new shortcut and the Firefox profile manager will open.

4.Click on Create Profile and click next.

5.Give your new profile a name (z8 forum) and click Finish.

6.Look in your profile manager and you should now see two
profiles listed. Click on your newly created z8 forum profile
and you can either un-check or check the don't ask at start-up option.

    7. Click on the Start Firefox button. Your brand new Firefox profile
will open and everything should be set to default with no user created
    plug-ins or bookmarks.

This fixes the problem for me. And I have found I actually like having
different profiles to use on the internet. I have one for games, one for
news, one for videos, one for forums etc. I can only summarize that there
was a setting that got permanently changed in the default profile through
something that I had done either by installing a plug-in or changing
    an option somewhere.

    Good luck.
