I don't get this whole "Help Japan" phenomenon.
How come ever since Japan got hit by the tsunami people are on a craze about helping Japan and giving them millions of dollars? People are worse off in other countries. Malaria in Africa, extreme poverty in South America that creates suffering beyond what you will see in Japan, countless villages with water contaminated by parasites. Why does it all go to Japan? Now even CF is trying to help them through ZP donations, which I think is just way to get more ZP, but im cynical. Why is the love only for Japan when they have the resources to help themselves more than other countries who are suffering more? Also their problem (other than the radiation) can be rebuilt. Homes can be rebuilt, etc. The horrible conditions in other countries have been here for decades and will continue to be here.
Also, do not get me wrong, I am all for helping Japan, I just don't see why all our focus has to be directed towards them when our money can be used for people suffering more.

well if it's corruption it just depends on how much money.I'm just trying to help get new anime's rolling out again.
No i'm kidding, I know that a lot of the countries on the poorer half of the world have a corrupt government or have Waaaaaaaaaay too much crime, all the money in the world won't change that. -

You don't donate to the government. You donate to non-profits. Such as organizations that provide clean wells for villages. I am in no way affiliated with this group (water.org) but I would donate to this place before I do to Japan.
Also to Aimoperative "Because 3rd world countries don't have exploding nuclear reactors that could sweep radiation across the globe.
Maybe not entirely the reason, but i'm sure it is a big concern. "
I understand the radiation part, I talked about that in the thread. I am all for that as it affects other countries as well. However, they have the resources to deal with it themselves and aid started before the whole nuclear radiation thing become spread all over the news. -
idk either when u think about it. but i guess its these countries are living in stable poverty andhave been for awhile, and in japan its all an emergency to them.
and obviously the buy zp for japan is a scam, z8 dosnt care about anything other then money and thats been proved time and time again -

No, they have mines planted on the ground. Who cares if they get blown up right? -

It doesn't stop the government taking it. and that is exactly what has happened multiple times before. we tried sending aid to Somalia but the acting powers that be around the time just took the food, shot a few people and used it for themselves.
Also organizations like the red cross can be as corrupt as any government. -

Dont be fooled, this is a real disaster, but nothing new. Look deeper and dont trust anyone or anything!
The Truth is out there!
On second thought, don't do that, The Truth might be something we can't handle. -
"People suffering more" is a ridiculous argument. While I agree that people should push to help ALL THE TIME and not just when catastrophe strikes, we're talking about a country that was hit with the 7th (If I recall correctly) strongest quake ever recorded. Damages at about 300 Bil and a death toll over 20k don't help either. Several hundred thousand people were left completely homeless.
Just because our negligence to help other countries with their conditions doesn't mean we can shrug this off too. Unfortunately being human means we get preoccupied (naturally) with solving the issues that affect us and those around us first. Nothing wrong with this, it's just a natural survival instinct.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say that if this quake were to have hit Africa and aid was pouring in there, you would instead be calling everyone a hypocrite for donating now instead of before. In a sense you'd be right, but sometimes people need something to hit them in the head before they see it. -

I agree, if the media didn't show it every second and instead focused on water in Haiti, hunger in other countries, violence etc. People will be donating their as well. Also there is an agenda. If you focus on a country that has a constant struggle you actually have to work to solve it, temporary problems make you seem like the "good guy" and you get more viewers. Humanitarian news my arse, all about the money.
Edit : Also to Green Ranger. I did say we should help Japan. However I said it really shouldn't be our first priority. If I had the money it would be on my list, just not very high up. -

signed. sadly, situation gets worse over there as we are typing. they gave up pretty much. tepco lied from the beginning about the radiation intensity (yea, no big surprise) -
Lol, I'm still hungry.
And nobodyelse agrees its because of the media 'attention'.
Okay.
i agree with the media thingy, they give zero attention to 3 world country's and they will forget about japan in a while like they did with haiti -
We are all robots.
There I spoiled the plot for you.
Probably, unless Japans whole industry goes in the drink..then where will we get all our tech?i agree with the media thingy, they give zero attention to 3 world country's and they will forget about japan in a while like they did with haiti -
Looking at it from a logical and socially responsible view (though a cold one), it should be at the top. We're talking about a large global economy that has been temporarily crippled. The longer they stay down, the longer possible negative impacts to the "world economy" can linger... and prices go up. If they go up we all pay, NGO's included. Mix the cost of running their operations with a global shift in perspective from "helping out" to "helping my bottom line" and you've just made the problem bigger...DoctorKelso wrote: »To: Broskiiii and DukeofPork

Korea! wait.... they are just good at gaming....
Japa... nevermind
France? no they are just good at wine.
ok questions too hard. Pass. -
Again. The media is everything in this world. Think about it. It controls us.
If you want something and you want it spread all over the world. Media is the answer.
I know this is bad discussing politics. But I believe global warming is a huge scam. Why is that politics all of a sudden began to take on the 'global warming theory'.
Those who were running for government would use global warming to help get voted in.
They would mention to the people 'If you vote for me, I will eliminate global warming'
And you know what's funny. Have you heard about global warming again in the media now?
I sure haven't. Because it's a scam. Many scientists proved that it's just a cycle.
There are many things like this that link right back to the media. Jus sayin'
Which brings us back to Japan. The media is crazy focused on this because it's a huge tragedy atm =ratings. As well as everyone is well-known of the issue. Which explains all of the donations.
The media has this thing of making us fearful, Idk it's really hard to explain it on here.;) -

global warming. is it used by the media and politics? yes, indeed.
is it a scam? no. -
It aint just 3rd World countries where people are starving, it's happening over here, why do you think loads of people smashed London to pieces? Because people are constantly loosing jobs, constantly getting into debt, constantly loosing houses every single one of my friends are living in poverty.
The only reason Japan's disaster is publicised is because it was a natural disaster and the news are all over it.
