How much cores

I hope anyone of you know how much cores crossfire uses because i have a processor with only 1 core with 3,2ghz. Now I am not sure if I should buy a processor with 2 cores or 4 because I have only 30fps at the moment in game with 8vs8. In bigger maps like BlackWidow or DesertStrom they drop to 20fps sometimes :(.

Comments

  • It only uses 1

So I wont have more fps ingame with 4x3,2ghz? Or is there any other option to increase fps, like more Ram or better graphic card?
  • CF only uses 1, but two would help with loading times, or if you're planning to run X-Fire, Fraps, etc.

If you want a cheap improvement on graphics, go purchase some RAM. How much are you running now, and which type is it (DDR2/DDR3/DDR)?

This game a CPU and RAM hog. Gfx card will help. But to get better performance from Crossfire you need CPU and RAM.

Not sure why though. Bad Engine.

RAM and a Graphic card will help

Technically getting a multicore processor will help if youre running anything else like XFire ect but Crossfire will only use one of those cores
  • Thank you for your fast answers. I think I will buy 4gb ram because I have only 1gb right now.
Maybe a better graphic card ,too.

Make sure you buy RAM that's compatible with your motherboard. And of the same frequency, too. I'd recommend Corsair, since their latency times are amongst the best around, for the price.

Ok so i`m like a lil bit of a geek when it comes to building a comp i`ma tell you whats good for gaming in general .

1.Dual cores are the best in overclocking ( when you push your computer to its limit ) i recomend an intel e7500+ core 2 duo cause its like a beast with overclocking (mine is at 4.0 ghz stable ) .

2.Fps are not only from your proccesor but from your videocard and ram ( i got nvidia gtx 460 overclocked edition 1.5gb ram and 4 gb corsair DD3 ram ) i get around 200 fps on max graphics but when filmind with fraps i get only 100 .

    3. 4 cores i7 for example now the 4 cores are hard to overclock (very hard) you have to be least pro to overclock them to 4 ghz . But if you can overclock ( thats in rare casses because every proccesor is in it`s own way like one i7 could go to over 4.ghz and another i7 could only go to 3.5 ghz so there is no limit to a proccesor.

    4. I recomend you get a dual core but your 3.2 ghz is enough you either lack RAM or a good videocard .

Note: For overclocking you need a good cooler so don`t try anything with the stock cooler you get from the proccesor .

    Phew
  • Thank you all!
I bought Corsair XMS3 - 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 for 40$ and I checked my mainboard it supports DDR3 with 1333MHz. I will look for a cheap graphic card soon.

That's the same RAM that I use, it's beast <3 I have mine OC'd to 1800mhz though, but make sure your PSU has enough wattage, and cooling, if you plan on doing similar.
  • /facepalm at ram and card suggestion -.-
u're r8 quad get more fps than dual does.
btw another cf clients support dual cores not like z8games. for example
    z8games
    8v8 = 30 - 50fps
    alternative clients ...
    8v8 same map = 120 - 160fps.
    at my intel dual core.

That's because other versions run on a completely different, GPU resourceful engine. Our's doesn't, it runs straight off the hard drive, which obviously needs a higher amount of ram to help commune that. A Dual-Core will only make a difference in this game, if you're planning on running background apps alongside CF. Base frequency is all that really matters, it's why so many people OC.
