im thinking about becoming a pure sniper

Patience is a key thing to sniping as well as good judgment. Snipers require you to be accurate after all, and if you miss, there's not always a chance to recover. Waiting for the opportune moment is something you should practice as well as keeping your eyes and ears out for those trying to ambush you.
Trusting your intuition is also a helpful thing in predicting player moves. -
Don't try to get the quickest kills. The most accurate kill counts, and that trumps over time in a good sniper 1v1. Of course, even pros have shot at least 7 missed shots before throwing their awm down and trying to knife people. In that case, don't QQ, just run away.

But I'm Pro and I don't drop my awm and use a knife.
But a key thing to sniping is to keep on moving from place to place. Most snipers fail to do this and it's too predictable to know where they are.
So don't camp nor crouch.
But practice is all it takes to be a good sniper. You get the feel of it, once you do it for a certain amount of time.
Good luck. -
This game is about choosing the gun that's best for a particular situation. If you're in a clan and you're always designated as a sniper, then you should probably practice with snipers. But the fact is that snipers are for pretty specific situations, and being versatile with your gameplay will make you a better player. If you find yourself having to rush into a tight spot in a SND, you should be able to pick up an assault rifle off of the ground and use it as well as anybody else. So be careful when choosing to totally scrap a weapon set, as you may ultimately be shooting yourself in the foot.

Try to just never miss a shot when you snipe: If you practice in some pub matches and always take that extra half-second to make sure your shot will hit, eventually you'll be able to shoot at the same speed as you would during normal gameplay, but you'll be a lot less likely to miss. Basically, instead of killing people by getting the first shot, practice on the, err, less experienced players of CF but make sure you're shots count. Eventually, you'll be able to shoot more accurately, but at the same speed as before.
Most people try to practice by shooting as many bullets as they can, assuming that more kills means that they'll get better faster. They don't realize that you can only train your reflexes so much, and with diminishing returns. However, someone that uses their time to work on accurate shots will shoot basically just as fast, but will have a much easier time hitting their target.
