Would you prefer new content or a hack fix?
If you had a choice between having the developers work on new content (new maps, guns, gameplay modes, etc..) or resolving the rampant hacks which would you choose?
I don't know if the developers of the game listens to the CF community but I would really prefer if they temporarily stopped working on new material and focused their efforts on doing something about the constant hacking in the game. It's been a really long standing issue and so far none of their solutions (hack reports and x-trap) are effective at keeping CF a relatively hack free game.
And before people start chiming in with the usual excuses in the company's behalf left me address those comments ahead of time.
1. It's a free game, what do you expect? (I expect to play a game with out glitches and hackers. Sure it's a free game, but Crossfire is a money making game just like World of Warcraft is. If the owners of this game hope to continue to make money they HAVE to come up with a better solution to the hacking problems.)
2. It's impossible to stop hacking. (While this is probably true, there are still ways to drastically deter and end some of the current hacking going on. The company has to dedicate the appropriate amount of resources to research and eventually put a stop to the current abuse of the game.)
Don't get me wrong I love this game which is why I get so angry when I don't see any improvements in this area of keeping out hackers. I'm not alone in this either, I see constant posts in this forum with people upset over the same issues. Unfortunately most of these people are usually teased for complaining, but I can't really blame them. It's such a drag to invest a lot of time and money into a game and then see idiots mess up the experience because they don't want to play fairly.
I hope in the near future something will be done to resolve the hack problems, but in the meantime maybe someone from the development staff will notice posts like these and make a effort to fix CF's problems.

Both? CF devs work on patch content, Xtrap works on patching hacks.
None of them interfere with each other.
Xtrap so far is not a good solution. While I'm sure it stops some hackers, there are far too many that get around Xtrap. I see the same hackers day after day and it's been that way for months. Time to implement something better than Xtrap. -
No sense since its not the DEV's job to fix the hack problem. Its X-Traps fault.
I guess it's time for Xtrap to get the boot because they just are'nt doing their job. A quick google search on Xtrap reveals lots of ways to bypass the security. -
Changing the coding and cryptographing the contents is a hard task to do, since the hackers have tools to decompress the codes and mess up with'em, one sollution that could be worked on as a temporary sollution is:
-Doing a damage limit per gun, a.k.a. The m16 cannot do more than X damage on a mutant at this distance hitting that spot on the mutant, if the player hits the mutant and KILLS him, doing more than 3000 damage on a single shot, the player would be DC'ed from the server.
this would solve the major problem with one hitters on MM, also in other modes, but it's up to the dev's, also, there's the problem with the auto-aiming programs, that could be solved by allowing movements coming only from commands from the mouse's sensors, but i think this could be easily breached.
anyways, the only way to counter the hacking problems now is to report the cheaters, and creating private rooms, nothing else can be done actively to prevent cheaters from entering on your room. -

what protection they use? -

This is exactly the point.
Lets see if I can equate this to something that might seem more real.Lets say your in highschool and your math teacher gave you guys a test once a week for the entire semester.Would you like less tests or to get rid of all the trash?
At the same time the schools garbages started overflowing with left over trash.
The answer is both, because they are different departments. Your math teacher has no control over how much garbage is left around your highschool. And both can be changed independently of each other. -

XTrap certainly did an extremely amazing job when it first came out, replacing the nProtect GameGuard, which is of not much use now. It removed ALL, and I mean all hackers. -

I don't think many high school students would be too bothered about trash but good analogy nonetheless! -

Saidin dont hate, but that was one of the epic failure comparisson ive ever seen
jkng... ive told the same thing in couple topics ago. although, from my personal experience with a LOT of FPS, the job of xtrap is indeed good people. Comon guys were a comunity of 400k+, and from what i see the servers have been pretty "clean".
Please understand ONE simple thing. This is a PC game, and PC games will ALWAYS have hackers. If its so annoying this so called "hacker" issue, just go play a console. There i garantee u you wont find hackers. -
Xtrap would work well if the game wasn't an FPS.
You probably mean MMORPGS..
in the first place MMORPG don't have that much of a big problems with hack!ng because everything there is server sided that means everything is based on the server like damage power HP gravity speed and stuff like that...
There are of course hacks for MMORPG's but the are mostly not that useful and users get bored of it fast...
So ya... it has nothing to do with xtrap.
Xtrap is mostly used in MMORPG's just to get macro's and script users
that wanna let there account auto farm and stuff like that...
