ive never recieve that error. You should uninstall and reinstall.

I think I saw this before
It has something to do with the updating failure

Try running crossfire as administrator
You right click on the crossfire icon and run it as administrator

That is for windows 7 and vista

if your on XP you need a account with administrator rights!

If that didn't solve the problem than your anti-virus or firewall is blocking them than you can add them to the exception list or just turn them off while your playing cross fire!
