fake hits/lagshots problems solved!

  • It can work, but if they were able to use an algorithm to set this up, I would assume they would also be able to use a similar set up to assist hit reg... which would make the original idea unnecessary >.>

C'mon z8, you should be ashamed... making a cute girl do all the thinking for you...

My suggestion is a simple server name change. Name the Alpha-Foxtrot servers CAN/US 1-6 (or something like that) and name the South Server Brasil 1 (or South America etc). Lets be honest: that server was placed there for them, but they won't understand it's theirs if you don't tell 'em. Not their fault, just simple language barriers.

I guarantee you, you rename the server and it will become the most occupied one overnight.
  • as i understod the cap would be 200,and every1 would have ping 0-10...but wouldnt the mass code change(40% u said) cause mass bugs ingame...on every patch there are tons of bugs that need fixing....to implement this idea ingame and set as standard needs time, money and work ..a lot of time.........they wont do it....dont corect my grammar plz i know i suck xD

o and would they have to take servers offline for a long time while they work on the codes?im not sarcastic i just know nothing about programing....

Well, many of the BR ISP's doesn't let you connect to those servers with a nice ping (still above 180 ping), so, we would have to change the ISP's routes to connect to there, wich i don't know how to do unfortunately, sooo, why not a NA server closer to the south borderline for a temporary solution to this?

As well, about the hit reg, it wouldn't work, since the images/positionswouldn't be in the right places, so, you could shoot the air, if the enemy's there on it's PC, you'll hit him, also, he would be able to shoot you before even appearing on your screen, so, i tought that the entire gampelay should've be adjusted with the system :]
so beast i dont even understand it.

Read again, i'm sure everyone here is smart enough to understand it, it even has examples! =D

actually not, since they can aways have an separated test server, so, they'll only change that in one test server, also, about the bugs, it would take a little while to program the game, but it's nothing THAT hard to do (adding a variable cap in the connection system, and making that "anyway they're connected in will do it..." to this: "200-actual ping=x, add x to the player's actual ping, make the calculations for x everytime to guarantee an stable connection" there we go ._.

Soo, it's a plausible idea, and for a programmer, i think they're smart enough to think in a way to do it, they just need an idea to work on ^^

    That's what I mean...

They have a server closer south... just rename that one so the vast majority can play there (if they wanted to).

many people using one of the biggest ISP's in here doesn't get a good connection on US south servers, even i can get better pings at charlie servers :/
  • Hm, you mean, make EVERYBODY lag EQUALLY?

    Meh that sucks :x

Switching ISPs for Crossfire isn't an option, is it? ._.
  • iDoggy wrote: »

No, make everyone have the same latency, so, the system would recognize everyone as an non-laggy person, if everyone plays at 200 ping, the system can be adapted to think you're playing at 0 ping with everyone, so, no corrections would be needed, since everything's happening at the same time, so, it's like playing at 0 ping :]

  • As someone with a low ping, this idea sounds ******ed.

Low ping should give you an advantage in online gaming, probably more so than is given in Crossfire at this time.
  • Well, let's explain this idea again -.-"

Firstly, it's not going to make everyone lag, it's going to make everyone play at the same latency, it's different.

The servers would get your ping, and add an delay to it to equal your ping to the average ping on the room (not including people with connection problems or extremly far away) and so on, make your gameplay synchronize with everyone else's gameplay, so, every char would be exactly where they were supposed to be at that time, so, the reg will work, and everyone will play at a similar to real time gameplay or LAN gameplay.

It's not going to make YOU lag, it's going to make everyone's ping the same, so, no one with a decent internet connection within a bigger radius would have the chance to play the game decently, revealing their real reaction times also, making it a lot more fair to the high pingers (that QQ about people shooting them before they even tought in react, so they assume the low pinger is cheating), leaving away a competitive gameplay not based on the latency (like CS was)

    Scheme:
    Normal

    Comp1 -200- server -10- comp2

    New

    Comp1 -200- server -10(+X-ping)- comp2

x being the room average ping

So, looking tha this, you're probably thinking "WTH this is gonna make us all lag!!!", firstly, let's explain how latency issues work:

The latency issues are based on:
    -Fake hits
    -Lately registered hits
    -Reaction time add in
    Fake hits

The fake hits work pretty much like this:

comp1 sees comp2 running down the alley, but comp1 has a bigger ping, so, his information is delayed, and comp2 is already 190 miliseconds of run ahead of it's position on comp1's screen.
comp1 fire his shot against comp2, but comp2 isn't really there to the server, it is 190 miliseconds of run ahead of the position that the comp1's screen shows, so, the shot may look like a hit, but the server doesn't count it as a hit, since it really wasn't, you shot the air behind comp2, or simply it's trail of delayed information.

delaying comp2's movements to the comp1's space-time, will make both computers synchronized, so, they'll have no delayed information (assuming that both computers work on the calculations by themselves, rendering the servers just a connection port with an latency adjuster, resuming, the game will respond in real time to your commands, no more wait to your weapons to change) making all the shots land in the right place, making them register and easily solve the fake hit issue.

    Lately registered hits

Those are rather annoying, they are the hits that you receive with a certain delay to when you were hit.

    Situation:

comp1 shoots at comp2 that's running towards cover, comp2 have a higher ping, assuming that the delay is big (about 100 miliseconds) the player will receive the hits only 100 miliseconds+his ping later, so he could be behind cover, and even then he will receive damage, rendering the covering rather useless.

When they're playing at real time, the player should receive the damage instantly (well, including of course the computer's reaction time, that shouldn't be more than a few miliseconds), so, if he jumps behind cover, none of the hits will be deducted from it's HP with delay, if he's shot down, he's going to be shot down before entering the cover, if not, he's going to get cover before diying.

    Reaction time add in

everyone knows that reaction times are important in FPS gaming, since they can decide if the player will win or not a gunfight.

The reaction time right now is calculated with this formula:
    Player reaction time+his latency
(notice that if the player's reaction time could be smaller than the other one's ping, so, they'll look like cheaters in a lot of situations...)
you'll notice that the increased latency will increase your reaction time, rendering it slower, pretty much making you less effective.

so, with equalized latencies, both players will fight based on their skills and the real reaction time, making the game based basically on the player, not his connection and distance from the server.

well, that's pretty much it, sorry for the wall of text, think wisely before posting, and please, read the entire thing before saying ship >.>

lemme live in your bathroom with rexy, gimme a high speed broadband internet and a good pc, pay me the air ticket then i'll think about it

you know, the games should have the same chances for everyone, otherwise, it would be unfari for all the players, so low pings shouldn't give the users any advantage.

eliminating this technical advantage, all the players will be based on their true skills, making this game competitive for everyone.

  • love the idea but cap should be at 100 if you have ever spiked to 100 and are used to somthing like 40 or so then 200 is like dang near impossible to adjust to

the cap will be adjusted to the biggest ping in the room until something like, 200, since that's the maximum that a CF player can has before acvtually lagging...

This solves another issue that you failed to mention:

It limits the game to be played by whom it was made for. The USA and UK players have to deal with all these 200+ ping laggers when they paid and supported the game, A game that is ONLY licensed in NA and UK regions.

Agree with this completly. If anything, they should take the more radical approach and make a ping cap.

it's not a cap limiting who would play the game or not, it's a ping system to synchronize everyone so everyone can play this game smoothly >.>

Pssh, I'm too poor for that D:

I can barely afford my own internetz at the moment...

Cutting costs blows, I don't have a cell phone anymore =/

Being an adult sucks, I wanna be 12 again Q.Q

Wouldn't it be easier to just move into Rex's closet...?

You could share an internet connection...among other things ;)
  • lag cap?

why not put lag caps on the servers. cause your clearly not going to put up a BR server so what is the point. all they have done nothing but hack and lagg for the past year that i have been playing. no one should spend money on a game that z8 not going to do any thing about. i really want to know the point is to keeping the high pingers in the game.

    Sharing internet for gaming blows...
we can share many things, i'm not that tall (1.73m i think O.o) so rexy can share his clothes with me :3
    his bed...
    his pc...
    his pr0nz...
    xD

The point is, high pingers deserve to play too, so, this system will solve the high ping problem, giving everyone the chance to play at the same time!

So, with everyone happy, no more laggers (only people with really, really sheety internet will lag), no more QQ's about the reg system, this game will surely, surely appear over the other ones in the market, as "the game who everyone can play, even with a sheety PC, or far away from the servers" :]

Oh Lordy, I'm sure he'd like that ;)

And sharing internet isn't too bad here. I can play lag free with another 2-3 people using the internet as well (for gaming, msn or regular browsing).

I might have to break into Rex's house and install some cameras...
  • that's y i hate high pingers.. they r like bullet proof monk. .

    You'll never know they're there...

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

If every bullet I ever fired that counted as a fake hit actually HIT THEM My K/D Would be 2.0 by now

    Not 1.6 -.-"

    +100 ;)

if that for me, my k/d will be 3.0+ instead if 2.5 now..
  • Well, I got a easier idea actually..

Why don't create servers for several parts of the world, and the player of that part can go on the server closest to him.. I mean.. Overall I got a good ping on UK servers (around 30), but when I go onto an US server my ping will shoot up to 130 or more..

So if just for example; the asian people get an asian server, eastern europe people get an eastern europe server..

That sounds way easier to me.. But I like you're idea tho.. I really hate it when I see someone, and start to shoot him.. and none of my hits actually hit him because he has 250 ping..

This will solve a lot of shouting and broken keyboards..

    +1

u just another dumb people, sugest dumb ideas..
do u think Asian Lived in Asia had to play CF/NA? w d f?
r u idiots? their is CF Korea.CF China, CF Japan. n it's all better than us here . .
Asian people plays CF na r mostly lived in US /CN ,like me i am Chinese American lived in NYC.. fuccking people just don think b4 they post sh1t...
