Should I join a Rival Faction?

I know that when you join a rival faction you get a ribbon. But what more does joining a rival faction do? Can you only be on that rival faction team when you play? What are the effects of joining a faction? I've read the rival factions' page, but there isn't enough info. for me to understand what the benefits/cons are.

Being in a rival faction means you can participate in Rival Faction events. There has been a temporary pause in these while Z8 have been busy. But they have said they are going to be continuing this.

Basically, for a month or whatever, we get points for playing in a certain map. The Faction that has the most points get a prize. Normally a temp wep.

BL have historically won all of these events, even though I think GR are better

There are missions, right, on daily basis, changing after the month, right ?
those missions are part of the Rival faction storyline, which is pretty amazing if u got a time to read or are u illiterate ?

And every month GR and BL play those missions, which side has more kills/wins wins a monthly event, the best players from winning side get cool prizes, the rest of the wqinning factions gets guns for 1 weekend and asome gp
