7 or xp 64bit
I got 4g ddr2 800mhz ram (sucks ikr)
I was thinking about going over to one of the xp's (home, professional, ultimate)
Because I think my ram sucks. A lot of the time I get like 80fps on CF. Like this really shouldn't happen. I was getting 130 on 32bit xp.
Few questions:
xp or 7?
What version of xp uses the least amount of memory? (home, prof, ultimate...)?
Current specs:
2.8ghz amd athlon x4
ati radeon hd 5770
4g ddr2 800mhz ram
137gb disk drive
Side notes:
I want best performance. I don't care what it looks like.

I had 32bit but I really felt it was a bit slower than I thought it should be...iShopBellaOo wrote: »XP home 32bit is the most efficient.
XP 64bit is very unstable, not even worth it.
Win7 uses a larger amount of memory, you would have less actually available. -

I defrag once a month. I haven't a clue what my paging file was set at. I don't mess with that stuff.
If you want to have a good performance with virtual memory, set the minimum and maximum the same value. The value you put in there should be 2,5x the total amount of RAM you have.
Also if possible put the paging file on a different partition, to avoid fragmention. Trust me. -
so if I have 4096mb of ram... Then I should set my page file for my cdrive at: 10,240 for both?If you want to have a good performance with virtual memory, set the minimum and maximum the same value. The value you put in there should be 2,5x the total amount of RAM you have.

This does tho. Didn't see it earlier, program looks kinda like unetbootin for Linux.

It will.
Should I use xp 32bit or 64bit?
Xp 64 bit came out at a time when there was barely enough computing power at the time that could handle 64 bit operating systems, so there wasn't really much support done for it, Imo it is an unstable operating system, go for 32 bit. -
Well, it's just that my cpu is 64bit. And I got 4gb of ram. When people say unstable, they really don't know what they're talking about. They say "windows vista" is unstable, it really isn't that bad.MF_rynaqui wrote: »Xp 64 bit came out at a time when there was barely enough computing power at the time that could handle 64 bit operating systems, so there wasn't really much support done for it, Imo it is an unstable operating system, go for 32 bit.
