[Intelligent Discussions] Empathy

That's so truuee, boring is bad.
I know boring is bad, but trolling isn't the only way of making a thread interesting. True, it's the universally accepted way of creating drama on a board, but there are other ways.
Empathy is putting yourself in the other's shoes. If you know that they won't mind having a laugh with you and are 100% sure of this, go ahead. There's a difference between having fun and joking with the other person and laughing at the other person to bring them down.
I get all of your point of views, anonymity, freedom of speech, and the boredom of not having trolls, but there are ways around this as stated above.
I'm sure you guys have all had laughs and inside jokes [as I have] in real life. Obviously, making fun of a friend or person you know isn't exactly always a way of getting a laugh, but it's a way. Don't get me wrong, I make fun of friends sometimes too, but I don't take it to an extent of making them cry or take it the wrong way.
If that ever does happen and they ask me to stop, I apologize. -
This thread is a sad excuse for a thread. Empathy is weakness, and in reality, no one can ever say that so and so experienced something in the same manner as so and so. No one can, and thats the truth.
Why bother trying to supposedly understand other's experiences when you never will. It may gain you respect from some, but in a sense, it is a skil used for manipulation or your weakness. -
askjdlfjadsl wrote: »Rawr, go download one of his spell-checks, you misspelled skill. :PHello, some of you may know me, some of you may not. It’s not that it really matters though. In response to the, “lack of activity” from me, I have decided to come back start making these intelligent threads just as many have done before. You may say, I am doing my own series of threads that promote intelligent discussions and hard thinking. I’ve been wanting to do this ever since our very own [MOD] Polleus has done. These threads won’t be a daily implementation, but I will have some threads.
Just to clarify, if you guys think that I am “copying” Polleus, or that I am trying “way too hard to be a mod” (some critique that I have received from many forumers after posting my threads) you guys really should look at the big picture. I am making these threads in order to help the forums become a regular gaming forum, to an intelligent, nurturing, and promoting community or even a family. If you do not share these same ideas, but instead want to think in a negative manner, just don’t read this. Post a “cool story bro” or a “tl;dr” and show your lack of intelligence. Just remember, I called this before anything actually happened.
This is a series of threads. These threads are really not “informative threads”, I prefer to call them “discussion threads”. If you don’t know proper English (which pertains to proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation), there are many websites that can help. I also know, from my past experience and from my research, that some internet browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, have spell-check, grammar-check, and punctuation-check built into them. If not, here are some helpful links:- Mozilla Firefox Spell Checker Add On: Click Here

- Opera GNU Aspell Add On: Click Here
- Safari Spell Checker Enabling Tutorial: Click Here
Due to a lot of discrimination a foreigner may experience in our community, mainly due to the fact that this is an English only forum, there are some decent online translators, such as Google Translator
Just to be clear, I bump the latest one every now and then until it becomes clear that nobody has anything new to contribute.
Well, without furthur ado, here is my thread that I bring to you today!

Empathy [Intelligent Discussion #5]
Topic: Do you think that empathy should be something in which everybody should follow, or do you think that it leads to misconceptions of prejudice? What do you think should be done to promote empathy?
So, with this new code of conduct coming out, I couldn’t wait to add my own little bit of thought into it. Obviously it’s exciting, but it also borderlines empathy, which is the topic for today. We also must be able to see some hidden messages which I will possibly get into in the future, it’s not important. What is important, though, is our topic for today.
I personally think, that empathy is something that we all should exhibit and follow. It’s an amazing thing when a community as a whole abides, shows, and exhibits this. If you didn’t get the above definition of empathy, my condensed definition is that empathy is the act of putting oneself into another’s shoes and making an educated analysis of it. This means asking yourself, “What would they say or how would they react if I did this?” This usually prevents most of the problem [for example, trolling, teasing, or name calling] before it even arises. It’s basically a fancy word for the “golden rule” [I’m sorry, but this isn’t a religious view, this rule is commonly known around the world regardless of race, age, or religion]
I, being a human being, understand the pains and heartache of caring about every other human that we meet. I know, other people can be irritating, annoying, and just downright mean, but it doesn’t mean we really can confront them about it and make fun of them because of a few flaws. Let’s face it, we’re all humans, none of us are perfect and we’ll all turn out eventually, for better or for worse. We all make mistakes, and I’m sure we’re all aware of them, in one way or another.
To promote empathy, I think that the staff team should take more care [not that they aren’t doing enough, they’re perfectly fine at the moment] to the fact that many players lack empathy. They troll [pardon my mythological relation] others just because they feel the need. They don’t feel empathy, and won’t without proper help. That’s why the new code of conduct was arisen, to help people like you and me, who care about the community and want to help out.
It’s not exactly a huge thread, but all I want from you is to look at one fact : You are a difference maker. You can achieve what you believe, and nobody can bring you down to their level without your will. You make choices, whether them being not the best, they can be, if you really hope so.
I’m not trying to put false thoughts or hopes into your head, but all I’m challenging you to do is try to think about how others feel when you do something. You trolling somebody, maybe making a joke about them could just be the tipping of the glass that makes his world fall like a colossal glass falling on an urban city. Who knows, maybe they’ve had a hard day, maybe found out that they’ll be failing a course and having to spend an extra year at school when they could have been going on to post-secondary education and be getting on with life. Maybe a death of a loved one could have occurred? Possibly even family troubles or abuse?
I’m going to leave you with a famous quote: “An eye for an eye makes the world blind.” Obviously by visionary Mahatma Gandhi, he had a way to look at things which didn’t involve physical fighting. Before you take the other person’s eye, or even think about taking another’s eye out, think about the consequences for them, not you. Be selfless. Although, I doubt any of you would be provoked enough to take out another’s eyes in today’s society.
Thanks for reading, it wasn’t exactly the largest thread, but I hope I got my point across,

Conflict shouldn't be entertaining... It would be better if we all got along[period.]
Mature people can discuss things without being a bunch of arrogant brats.
In other words you can disagree and argue your point. But flaming and insulting and flat out being rude is COMPLETELY unnecessary. Saying trolls are funny or entertaining is just sad. -

yeah whatever. fade me. -
Empathy cannot be apart of this game, because I believe that
A) a good portion of the community either doesn't understand the word and its meaning or...
most actions in a virtual environment have no feelings put forward (within that environment) (in my opinion)
For example, you can scream and rage at your computer...

but inside the computer (TRON WORLD) the game character sits there waiting for more user input
Thats what I think -
Please do not post tubes like this again . It makes as mad as the ******ed kid .I was on the point to try to hit him through my screen :eek:Empathy cannot be apart of this game, because I believe that

In any environment real life or online, it's always the individuals choice on how they act. And whether or not they will choose to; learn and grow, or to be arrogant and selfish. Yes the internet has differences that affect some peoples attitude. But our ability to influence is the same regardless. Saying it's impossible to change things here is the same as saying it about people in real life. Yes some are impossible to change, but there are some who will gain something from wisdom spoken to them.
We can speak something to a crowd and they will forget it tomorrow, but we must speak it anyway.
Personally, i think these discussions would be more accurately labeled as "common sense", but seeings how common sense is no longer common anymore... I guess i can't really complain. -

I'm sorry, but you're a troll? You're just spitting out nonsense with a bit of vulgarity. I'm sure that others laugh at you, other than cry because of you.
Again, there are barely any "real" trolls in this community. Some of them are just people who get bullied.
Also, if this is you, I laughed. I'm sorry, but I don't know you, nor do most of the forumers. To be a troll means to be known as somebody who flames.Empathy cannot be apart of this game, because I believe that

There are those people who are "victims" who cry through mic. They scream and cry to their screen, and then express their rage through a keyboard. It's not just a cry and scream at their screen and go take a nap style, it's more of a cry and scream at their screen and try to make comebacks, which just feeds the flame more. -
OK.
I will stay in the 1st meaning of empathy which is actually "walking in the others one shoes"
I will give an example
Most people here flame brazilinas for their ping.
To counter their ping they use M12s.
Let's say now the situation changes and WE become the laggy ones...
Would you like it if you were flamed instead?
Empathy can stop trolling it's essential for the community.
Empathy can be a way of teaching, too.
Understanding the other person better.
It should be used by all forumers and NON-forumers (in game)
New code of conduct somehow makes it obligatory.
But that's an other discussion. -

So your argument is trolling is unacceptable because the victims are often emotionally compromised?
Here's an Eleanor Roosevelt quotes you could use:
"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
Doushe.
Now go cry and scream then find some pathetic comeback to feed me some more.

I was saying that to one_9 who said that victims usually always try to make some random comeback, instead of just quitting and leaving their computer.
And the fact that you're using a quote from a first lady, first lady from America, no less, is actually pretty funny.
It's not hard to make others feel inferior.
You're not a troll, you're even worse than Protek, which is saying something. -
A TROLL is an intelligent person ,He has a huge IQ . Same apply to a hacker . Here we don`t have any of them.
on CF we have idiots who use the products of those intelligent persons to prove themselves ridiculous .( cheating in game ).Where as the suppose trolls , they are only kids who seek for attention but fail .
A simple example ." someone would try to correct a foreigner about his English while he is unable to write his mother language properly . He proves himself as to be a non educated person , cause he has not been taught yet that being respectful to other people ,makes of him an example to follow."
I have see sooooo many people trying to be a troll here and finally they disappeared ,just because they were unable to argue intelligently ,then use vulgarity and finally got ban from the community ( this is our habitual trolls) .
By the way there are some funny guys who like teasing others but never offend seriously his victims. Those ones are wrongly considered as trolls " we need those ones to make the forum less boring " -
I agree with ghostsbuster
Trolls have a huge IQ.
It's not easy to find exactly the hole in the words of the victim and then think of something that will cause havok and will bring fight in the discussion.
The troll's job is to create a fight not insult a person.
The ones that just keep insulting people are only rude.
About insulting though(and sarcasm)
When you read a post you don't know if the person is just joking.
You also don't know the emotional condition of the person.
Something might have happened to him IRL and he is angry, sad or both
You emotional condition plays a huge role when you post -
True . Someone might have had a problem in game and is very angry , then fall on a thread that might talk about something similar to what happened while he was in game . So his reaction will be more like " I need to spit that venom I swallowed " Then he spit it and feel better and it`s done for him." only to quote this one ."Hypernamer2 wrote: »When you read a post you don't know if the person is just joking.

LOL, so I'm assuming your word is OBVIOUSLY better than a first lady who, with her husband, pulled America out of the depression. It's pretty clear what you think of yourself now.
