Since you are only getting 2GB of RAM, I do recommend you to get a 32-bit OS.

That's why I'm being swayed by it but I was also considering increasing the amount later to 4 gb with dual channel 2gb sticks.

And you won't increase your RAM after that? Because if getting 4 GB RAM is your goal, then get the 32-Bit O.S

Can you honestly say anything > 4gb is ever needed? Lol. Even i7s are pointless. Most software doesn't work with hyperthreaded processors.

I guess it would be worth it unless you can link me to a cheap copy of XP SP3. I'm not going to cheat and torrent it >_>

IMO, get win XP. Very stable, takes up 128 b of RAM (10 times less than Vista) and drivers still exist for it. I would recommend NT, for it's even more stable, but unfortunately drivers are hard to find for NT.

No sereousssly, I have Windows XP Pro on this comp, don't want to transfer anything from this HDD to my new one due to this hdd having a tricky little rootkit I haven't been able to remove with any tools.

And I don't have the original discs. So bleh.

You only need 4GB+ if you are using Vista or W7.

I have XP,4GB (which only 3.75 is usable) and I barely use 1 GB of RAM (1.3 MAX)

I never liked Vista or W7, even though I can get both at a really cheap price (my parents own a PC shop.)

7 is alright. xp x64 would be great. But it's just so unstable. Windows:Trash is just...trash...

Alright so I switched to a 32bit Win7 Anyone got any sata cable brand recommendations? Need a cable for the HDD.
