GM Saidin: a moment of your time (regarding the cheating problem)

Hi, I wrote this in another forum reply, but please consider this. We already know that the way to stop diseases is to prevent them in the first place, rather than just nursing symptoms, so I believe this relates to the hacking problems...

" The reason there are so many hackers is because they keep coming back after being banned, because they can spawn so many new email accounts. Take that crap away, and make all new accounts verifiable MANUALLY (to make sure the account is from an ISP), and no, AOL DOES NOT QUALIFY (to prevent AIM spamming), and BAM : PROBLEM SOLVED.

Yes, Xtrap can be bypassed, and nothing can stop VIP hacks, except suing the hack makers for infringement of intellictual property (there has to be some sort of clause that can protect a company from people that write and sell hacking tools), but when cheaters DO Get banned, they simply make another account and come back. And the way to stop that is to make it extremely difficult to make a new account, once you waste your ISP issued email. Especially considering many hackers are young kids, a kid can't simply ask his parents for new email addresses from their internet service, because at least any responsible parent is going to demand to know what is going on. And when they find out little Johnny is hacking in an online video game, well, if that person were MY son, I would never let them use a computer to play videogames again, until they are living on their own.

Z8 needs to step up to the plate here, and get tuff on cheaters. Yes, people will whine that they won't be able to use their yopmails, hotmails ,gmails, yahoo or MSN or AOL (AIM) accounts anymore, but that's the price you pay. And once the hacking population has dropped by 80%, people will in the end be thankful for such a change.

Please consider pushing for this, to your superiours. The Korean SSN works great for their games, and this is a lot better than requiring a USA SSN (not to mention what foreign players would do).

And frankly, even people in netbars can get an email address if they try hard enough. People just don't want to try, because they are lazy...

  • The reason cf has hackers is since we cant just make them leave the game automaticly. If you look at css or cs 1.6, you wont see any hackers since there is usualy an admin to permanently ban players from the server.
  • But you can't compare a F2P game with dedicated servers. CSS actually has plenty of hackers. My best friend is actually a semi-pro player, and has won money in tournaments, and he hates playing non esea, due to the large # of wall hackers running around (and he's good enough to know when someone is chamming).

My point is, you can't stop people from hacking, but you CAN make it VERY, very difficult for hackers to come back. Admit it, 90% of the players in F2P games use free email accounts...and MOST people who do play F2P games DO have an internet account at home...(which means they DO have access to an ISP provided email, even if they have to man up and *gasp* discuss it with their parents?).

It's mainly people in developing nations that don't have their own internet (or parents) accounts...
  • It's up to xtrap. Not z8games (the portal)

but that cost more money that they rather spend on making mutation mode stuff
  • You want to ban all the players with yopmail, hotmail ,gmail, yahoo, MSN or AOL accounts?
Ever thought that there might be ALOT of players that don´t hack and played this game a long time now? They ranked up, got better weapons, bought zp, .... and now you want to ban them? How would YOU feel when this happens to you? Think about it o.O

No point in making mm stuff if not alot of people play it since theres too many hackers in it.

He is talking about new made accounts not the old ones.
  • Right, I've seen you argue this email angle for a few days, so I'll reply to that even though I already shut it down once.

Not all ISPs give out free emails. Assuming they do all over the world because YOUR ISP does is pretty stupid. How will the people with decent ISPs who don't waste bandwidth on email services play?

Banning every free option such as AOL and hotmail would inevitably mean we lose a big portion of our player base.
The system we have in place now works pretty well, of course no system is going to be flawless.
We'll see a pretty rapid decrease in cheaters as soon as a fix is available, as it is every time this happens.

Funny how everyone is a genius when theres a few extra cheaters though.
  • Do the ISP issued email thing and 99.9% of this playerbase will be gone. Have fun playing with the whole 8 other people who use an ISP issued email. I know a ridiculous amount of people and I don't think I've seen any of them use an ISP based email.

Nice try though, but not practical in any way for any website, ever, Period.

    What he said^
  • 98% of the people that play CF use Hotmail/Yahoo/BlueYona/AIM, so if they ban them, CF NA will be dead.

Even thought if CF carries on like this, it will be dead within 2 years.
  • That's actually a bad idea. Dam. I used my MSN/Windows Live account to register my account. That's terrible, they'd be losing thousands of dollars of income to. You have to think about them too. They're probably trying to figure out how to stop these guys as we speak. The hack.ing population has dropped in the last week, I've noticed.

Actually, you are incorrect. Z8Games has no grounds with the actual function of the game. That's G4Box. Z8Games is just an internet portal, no game influence. I know, I'm nit picking. But those are the facts. I do agree with you that something better needs to be done. However, I'm not sure what other solutions are out there. What anti-cheat do you know of that ACTUALLY prevents cheating? Not even Punk Buster or VAC prevent it.
  • what about house with 2 or more crossfire players?
  • Why not switch xtrap to punkbuster? IP address banning means loss in revenue. z8Games and many other game portals in the MMO industry are paid hundreds of millions annually, ranking it the #1 industry to make legitimate revenue (since they are free games but premium items can be bought). In addition, Punkbuster may cost more than xtrap; xtrap does a fairly great job in my opinion, even though it can be bypassed at this moment. Now, quit crying about this matter. There will always be emulations and hacks available as well as the need to refrain from switching to PunkBuster.

punkbuster only works for dedicated servers (from a mod) and it isnt really that great. ive seen a good number of hackers on a game with punkbuster.

Here are a couple of things to ponder here.
    1. 'there has to be some sort of clause that can protect a company from people that write and sell hacking tools'. The laws that govern society are not easily enforced on the internet as proven by illegal downloading. The music industry has been fighting with this for a decade. Assuming that there 'has to be' a law doesn't mean that there is one and it is enforceable on the net.
    2. Parents don't care what their kids do with their games. They think it's a waste of time and a bad influence altogether. I generalize.
    3. See Giggletron.
    4. As long as there are rules, there will be people that will try to break them. The hacking comes in waves and the company that is charged with stopping it will win temporarily. This is the 3rd wave of serious hacking in this game that I've experienced since open beta. Try playing Delta server. There are few hackers there as the players on that server work together to kick them.

There are very clear laws against illegal downloading. Its just really hard to enforce.

A gaming company could easily, just as Blizzard does, put it up in the EULA that the user may not in any way manipulate the memory of the game.
They're quite successful and have a pretty massive lawsuit in action against people selling cheats for WoW.

This is however nothing Z8/G4 can do, as we're merely publishers.
Its up to Smilegate or their owners.

    Unfortunately, I might add.
  • read what polleus said. you will get your answer
  • I'm not saying that this is a bad idea, but it would result in a loss in revenue in this game, thus meaning, not gonna happen.
  • The problem here is that you or we want a BIG HACK SOLUTION. This will never happen we will continue for years to QQ and play with hackers. There are plenty of small solutions that can lower the quantity of hackers . ADD ALL THOSE LITTLE ONES together and it will get a big amount of hackers away .
First of all we must seek for the reason someone hack and eliminate this one first " like ping and tanking issue . The guy who can`t kill cause of his High ping may lead him to look for a hack to compensate his lack of kills " This is only one example out of X number of reason for hacking. Solution PUT servers in those foreign countries ( Z8 has made international advertisements then he MUST GIVE a server to those countries that are far from the main server.)If Z8 has no money to do that then or he must ban those countries and stop the ADV. worldwide , or do something more easy ." put channels with specfic ping level.
You have here one little solution and there many others to tackle with . Up to you to continue swimming in the same dirty pool for ever or add some filters then a pump and all the other stuffs you need to clean it .
I can tell you where are all the little solutions BUT IT WILL TAKE ME LIKE TEN PAGES TO EXPLAIN HOW ALL OF THEM WILL WORK TOGETHER .:o
    LOL WHO WILL CARE ?
  • I am probably going to retire.

I have reported several people over the last couple of weeks and nothing gets done about it. I have spent more money on this game than any other ever (100s and 100s) and it would have continued.

Even if they can't get rid of VIP, the least they could do is ask more people to watch replays set some bans.

I really don't see the point of spending hundreds of euros on a game that people can just so easily cheat at with no repercussions.

I will give it a week or 2 and if nothing improves I have a couple of alternatives in line.

I am a 6th grade captain by the way and have been playing since the start... So it pains me to give it up. I know a lot of guys feel the same.
