same here lol. i am a cook, trying to get my gf to the point where she enjoys creating/cooking things. and for the ps3: no lie, she plays ACB multiplayer and i am in the kitchen haha. i sometimes take pictures of things i created and use them as msn display picture to make ppl jealous.
The irony for me is i only cook at home once to twice a week for me and my wife, i really hate to be cooking at home after a long tired day of cooking at work, and btw how do u find the enjoyment in cleaning up after cooking at home, i always dread the part of cleaning up so i'll always ask my wife to do it...:p even if she's glued in front of the tv watching her dramas. -

nice, is that caramel sauce thats with the banana fritters. we have a local favourite dish from where i come from, its known as goreng pisang otherwise known as deep fried banana. -

alot of professional cooks are like that i think. i wonder how you can even manage to do it as a profession for more than 3 or 4 years. working hours, heat in the kitchen and everything.
good thing is, my gf always cleans the kitchen with a smile on her face. its something i am not even allowed to do, as long as i cook, that is haha -

I have been on the industry for 7 years cos my mum owns the restaurant and im supposed to take over the reins but honestly i getting quite bored, its not the long hours or heat that bothers me, its the routine that sux so bad.
you are so fortunate and lucky to have such a gf, my wife always frowns when she has to do the cleaning although she does a good job. But honestly i always feel cooking for ur loved ones is one of the most closest and loving thing anyone should do. it binds couples together esp if the other half loves your cooking.

i also like creole Kitchen. i love how they are combining african, asian and european cooking. best of a "few worlds".
im not too sure where goreng pisang originated from, i think it might be from malaysia. oh btw im from Singapore.
yah, l like that show too, in fact i like all cooking programmes...its my dream job to be able to travel everywhere and cook the local dishes as a cooking guide on tv. -

never been to singapore but i admire cooks who are able to create tasty food without using high amounts of fat. i thinke everyone can cook when using alot of butter and so on, but it takes skills to prepare food which is tasty and healthy at the same time.
you can be glad btw that you are working in a restaurant that is family owned. -

i enjoy cooking as long as i'm following a cook book, have enough time, and have all my ingredients...
During every holiday we stay at home, all my siblings cook, we (kids) take part in everything, but the funny thing is, unless we are directed by our head chef (my eldest sister) we can't cook for anyone.

As a matter of fact our restaurant strongly emphasizes on less salt, less oil and no msg. Thats like kinda of our slogan...lol. well, its very true im more fortunate than the rest of the chefs out there cos i can learn directly from my mum, she's the head chef. and i dun have to go thru the standard procedures of starting from the bottom of the hierachy in the kitchen. yah, so i ought to appreciate and be glad of my current situation. btw l'll show ya some pics of my pastry creations if im able to upload any.:P -
I didn't think this thread would live this long. Usually I make threads that die instantly. It's nice to see others have a passion for cooking. I'm going to try and experiment more this week, take some pics, post 'em up. Maybe we should make a thread for recipes and results of the food some people make? Would love some more ideas.

One day I was sooo hungry and all I had was some lettuce, Turkey, grated cheese and I made a roll-up lettuce sandwich thing, It was freakin awsome!
I also make my own Cheese Steaks. With steak meat, onions, bellpeppers (red and green), provolone, shrooms and some banana peppers. Slice the vegetables thin-ish on a flattop pan with some oil, then put your meat on top of the vegetables cook till done. Then get a french roll and put butter on both sides and toast it on a flattop pan. Serve with ketchup and ENJOY!
ps im 16 and have been cooking and making up stuff for 8 yrs.
