What should I get to upgrade my laptop.?

Not many laptops can be upgraded in terms of graphics cards. Laptop graphics generally are built-in to the motherboard unlike desktop PCs which you can usually change the card.
Only a few high end laptops are able to have the graphics upgraded.
The best you can probably hope for is to upgrade the max ram it can use depending on the motherboard and OS, install a faster hard drive (EG from 5400 to 7200RPM or solid state) and possibly the CPU (which I wouldn't recommend unless you have experience or know someone that can do it). -
adding more ram want do you much good, only thing you should do is install xp proffesional, use game booster
You're saying don't install more ram but install XP Pro which actually uses more ram than XP Home then use game booster to reduce the running programs to save ram?
Can't quite see the logic in that.

CyberCat, you're good with laptops right?CyberCatUK wrote: »Not many laptops can be upgraded in terms of graphics cards. Laptop graphics generally are built-in to the motherboard unlike desktop PCs which you can usually change the card.

When I start my laptop I get a black screen, but when I attach it with my computer screen I see graphic card shadowed and one more thing shadowed. Do you know how to "unshadow" them? -
Try turning the lights off should stop shadowing

Lol, if you mean you get a POST message about Video Bios Shadowing being on, you may be able to turn this off by going into the CMOS setup screen (Incorrectly refered to as the BIOS by many).
Access the BIOS settings (easier to explain it with this as it should show you what key to press to access the BIOS on boot-up. DEL, F1 or F10 etc). Then somewhere in there you might find the Video Bios Shadowing.
Not very common in laptops though to be honest. -

Yea, i've been on that screen many times and I dunno where to find it..
It even doesn't loads windows til the log in screen...
Even on my computer screen I get a black screen >_>
My pc crashed
AND NOA I CAN"T FRIGGIN PLAY CF!!
((((
OT: The RAM makes your laptop faster, the graphics card will give you a fps boost, but you can't change the graphic card with most laptops.. -
I've never used a MAC. Always been a PC geek. I would imagine the CMOS is probably similar though as it's the same motherboard architecture?
I also haven't dealt with full CMOS options for a while, since I switched to gaming laptops from desktops years ago.
Try looking for Advanced Chipset Features. Video Bios Shadowing and System Bios Shadowing may be somewhere in there, maybe near the bottom.
Problem is, some CMOS setup utilities do not show all the options and it may be hidden from being accessed. -
I think it's hidden, how do I get it?CyberCatUK wrote: »I've never used a MAC. Always been a PC geek. I would imagine the CMOS is probably similar though as it's the same motherboard architecture?

LOL, it's a "Win7" laptop.CyberCatUK wrote: »You can't
Only possible option would be a BIOS update but even then it may be hidden for a reason. And doing a BIOS update wrong could screw up the motherboard.
Could try contacting MAC tech support to see if they have any options.
I'm on my mac, on forums while both my win pc and laptop crashed

Ah right I got ya. Confused me cos you said you were on your mac I thought you meant your mac was the one... anyway... I might be able to help a bit more then, but will need more info.
Do you know the make and model of the laptop or even the motherboard model?
Also see if you can spot the Bios ID String. This page give you some info on how to find it.

change grafic card chip on ur notebook-motherboard will not really change fps ingame. but when u wish to do it u should know that u should change ur cooling system too wich can affect ur voltage and overheating issue. search for notebook community on internet.

This is one of the reasons I quit working in tech support.change grafic card chip on ur notebook-motherboard will not really change fps ingame. but when u wish to do it u should know that u should change ur cooling system too wich can affect ur voltage and overheating issue. search for notebook community on internet.

You are suggesting that a graphics chip can be removed and replaced, and that the VGA cooling system will need to be changed resulting in a change to the voltage and blah blah, all inside a standard laptop case?
While this may be possible for extreme die hard laptop modification it is not within the realm of basic upgrades. If you look at the original post he is asking for basic advice on either upgrading the graphics card or ram. I highly doubt he will be looking to install a liquid cooling system or altering the voltage output of a laptop.
CPU=FPS? where did you learn this from?
What do you think the graphics chip/card is for? Sending email?
Modern 3D games require graphical chip, whether built-in to the motherboard which I stated is quite standard in laptops, or on a graphics card, the faster the graphics card can process the images the higher the frames per second will be. -
lol. shame. download gpuz = wich shows u how much of ur graficard ram are currently used. set ur graficcard settings to max performance and then to max quality. read readings of ur gpuz. and look at fps ingame = there will be no difference.
and when u still not believe overclock ur graficcard see same readings again. fps still the same.
cpu = fps. why do think there are benchmarks of cpu-fps of many games?
P.S i hope u talk about crossfire cuz it is like many other games cpu based game. there is just few games where u can decide between gpu or cpu rendering. -
You are assuming I have no experience of altering graphics card settings to obtain the optimum FPS over graphical quality?
or that I have not overclocked various graphic cards memory and/or graphic cards core clock to obtain the highest FPS without artifacting?
I would love to see some benchmarks of CPU-FPS without using a grafic card.
OK, shame on me.
P.S. I wonder if anyone would like to put this to the test?
Set you graphics settings to high performance, no AA, no AF - see what FPS you get in crossfire.
Then set it to the highest quality, AA (8x, 16x?) highest AF (16x?) - see what you get in-game.
Will it be exactly the same? I already know the answer on my system. -
lol ur grafic card can only reduce fps not increase. when cpu send 35pics(frames)per second to a graficcard and graficcard does not support it they will be laggs

see something about graficcard?
