How to speed up your PC/Laptop for better performance!
My gaming laptop is a straight-forward 64-bit Acer Aspire 5542 4GB-RAM laptop, Windows 7 laptop.
It works really well, even though it isn't a gaming laptop. I have tips on how to speed it up. If you have seen my Pando Media Booster thread, then that would have helped a little.
Here is another guide on how to speed up your PC.
1. First of all, we're gonna start off at Performance settings. This process will vary over the different OS'.
PART1:Go to Computer, right click Computer, click Properties. After that, click Advanced System Settings. It should be looking like this so far.

PART2:On your advanced tab, look at the Performance section and click Settings on there.
When it is shown, click the Adjust for best performance bullet point. If you wish to keep your Windows Theme, tick the box which says Use visual styles on windows and buttons. I tend to keep my Windows Theme, I don't like it looking ugly.
It should be looking like this so far.

When you are done, click Apply then OK.
2. Secondly, you need to download some softwares to speed up your laptop/PC. I recommend using these programs.
(The links will be shown to download. Serials will be given underneath links soon or in biography.)
Game Booster (closes down unnecessary services, programs, and processes and speeds up RAM for better FPS):
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
*Do not shut down the process Explorer.exe. That's your desktop.
*Do not shut down ctfmon. It's used to help your Windows run.
*Do not shut down your sound drivers (e.g. RealTek). You obviously need that for your sound.
*Do not shut down taskhost.exe. Well, you know what it is, don't you?
Etc. You should know what not to shut down.
RegistryBooster 2010 (fixes errors, fixes the registry, files that may be damaged):
http://www.uniblue.com/software/registrybooster/
SpeedUpMyPC (can close down system services, deletes junk files such as the Internet Cache, temp files, etc.):
http://www.uniblue.com/software/speedupmypc/
3. Oh, won't you be needing this? Definitely. Thirdly, you need an anti-virus software. I use two: Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. They are both recommended and I can supply you with Malwarebytes. If you wish to get Microsoft Security Essentials, you best be going down to the local PC repair store and tell them to get MSE for you.
Malwarebytes is excellent. It can track down the hidden viruses and can decode them. Also, my friend can decode viruses for you, but he does not usually come online.
SpyBotSearchAndDestroy is a free anti-virus software and works just like MalwareBytes. If I can't supply you with a license key for MalwareBytes, then try SBS&D.
If you don't scan for viruses and destroy them, they will eat up your memory and will cause you to lag in an unthinkable way. Worser than a rick-roll website.

SpyBot SearchAndDestroy:

License key coming soon.
4. Uninstall things you do not need.
Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features/Add or Remove Programs
Uninstall the things you do not need.
5. Disk cleanup.
Search Disk Cleanup in your programs, or go to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and click Disk Cleanup. It will scan your C:/ drive and will see if there are junk files, dump files, process errors, error reports, and will delete them. Click all the tick boxes and click OK.
6. Update your graphics card/Fix your graphics card for better quality/fix errors.
If your graphics card is broken or you do not have one, you will get boot errors, screen lines, fuzzy color, and you won't be able to start it up.
I see some people who have some graphical errors. What I would do is to fix your graphics card. Go to dxdiag in Run or search dxdiag in your programs. Click it, then go to the Display tab. Look at the Device system and gather as much information as you can from the Name: and Manufacturer:. Search your graphics card up, for example, ATI Radeon HD 4200 on Google. See if you can update it. I can not help you update it, you have to do it yourself. If you broke it, (not snapped or anything...) put it in an oven for half an hour. It works, trust me. It fixes your microfissures and evaporates the moisture coming off it.

7. Disk Defragmenter.
What this does is increase speed by rearranging files from the drives to fix the contiguous storage locations, known as Defragmenting. In Windows XP, it is known to speed up start-up times. Defragmenting basically optimizes your time of opening files so that when you open something, it comes up in a click.
Go to All Programs, Accesories, System Tools and click Disk Defragmentor.
Analyze your files first, so it knows what it's dealing with, then Defragment it. It will take a long time, but it's good to know that your computer is sped up. After that, it should ask you to restart. Save your work, shut down your work, then restart.
8. Finally, delete your unknown and un-used files.
Go to your documents, your desktop, whatever, and delete the files that you don't need no more. Btw, if you are into video-making, after you have rendered your video, delete the project and SFK files. Search for files in search all, and then search SFK files in All Files and Folders.
I hope I have sped up your computer. If not, oh well. PM me ingame, on Xfire, forums, whatever. PEACE OUT.

P.S. I will add more stuff later on.
