While we realize this ribbon can to some degree be farmed... And yes, desertions are a downside to this whole thing.
We couldn't pick 500 because then there's really nothing to work for for the regular people who play the game on a regular basis.
Achievements have to be achievable over time. Not just straight given out when we release them. (in some cases anyways)
It's best to ignore the farmers, or the deserters and treat some of these as your own personal goals. If you did it legit then you have yourself to pat on the back for owning it! -
