I beg to differ sir---The Irish didnt mix well with ANYONE when they first arrived, perhaps your thinking years and years later-even then it wasent "mixed well".

The Irish clanged to the factory jobs that were high in demand, as well as yes-the Catholic bit. When they came over largely in part to the potato famine, they had only a few things to live for-in a sense. Their job-or in most cases lack there of. Their family-via why family traditions are so strong in Irish families, such as what they did in their motherland being redone here in America. And their church and other social events to cling onto.

The Irish immigrants were treated like dirt, thought to be the drunks we so commonly brand them with like other stereotypes. Catholics of the time werent in large numbers yet, and often were frowned upon, however it was the church that lead to the "Mixing" to be alot easier...people found that leaving their home and coming to America they had very little-the church helped them find jobs/homes/etc in life.

But-I am no college major in Irish, just American history and psychology-and only covered this period for a few months. I suggest you use the great tool of GOOGLE to answer your questions. When in doubt-Google it.
