Some Asian parents are too beyond their education standard...
To start off, just to let you keep in mind for this thread:
My parents are born in the country sides in China, they had a harsh life.
Also to keep in mind... I have a PS3 that has only 5 games... they are rated E to T.
In school I did exellent, got great marks like 80s and two were 90s.. except for one course... it was an optional course of Computer Programming. It's my first time ever doing programming...
When the mid term report card comes out, I got about 65% mark on that course... and my parents freaked out... They didn't even care if I had great marks in other courses... they just yelled a bunch of ching chang chong at me and they'll get mad if I tried avoid listening to their ching chang chong!
So then Black Ops came out... I just wanted to buy this new game that's actually DECENT compare to the current games I have (although some of you hate COD, I just want this one at the LEAST expense, as in it's somewhat cheap crap compare to Bad Company 2).
My parents just refused... and I tried to convince them... all they did was p1ssed off.
I'm a responsible person, I worked my ass off trying to get those 80s and 90s mark (don't regard my computer programming course)... but they just refused to buy me it, and restrict me to buy it myself (I can buy it myself, but I'll get in trouble if they catch me playing it).
They think that this little Black Ops would effect my responsibilities and my report card marks... They consider almost every game in the industry is like DRUGS like COCAINE! They think if I have one game like BLACK OPS (console FPS games), it will ruin my life... that's what is going on in their mind!
I'm not like those people who are addicted to PS3/XBox... ( I was a bit of addict to games and had fail report card marks when I was young, but I'm like OLD enough now!...)
These two ch1nks still consider me irresponsible... why? well 20% of the time I have free time to watch TV and play games like Crossfire... THEY TAKE IT FOR GRANTED THINKING I AM IRRESPONSIBLE!... they never think about the time that I ACTUALLY did work (homework, chorses, etc.).
What do I think about my parents...? Personalities of a typical Asian parents, mixed with cheap-ass Indian convenient store owner's Personality (The kind of personality that's like "Thank you come again! shut up! thank you come again gtfo!" and "Somebody's gonna get a hurt real bad!"). Their personality is like this probably because it's modified by the exposure to life in the country sides of China (a poor life)...
I know what they want... to have me being successful in the future and have opportunities that my parents never had with no influence by video games... but you know something? A person cannot have too much of anything... I'm having too much of their educational pressure.
I CAN handle games like Black Ops, I know how to manage my times.
There are many of you arn't like me, they do exellent in school and STILL get to play video games... Some of these people even do better than me... and guess what, most of them are ASIANs (these are people I know). How am I different from them?... I'm not, my parents should stop treating me this way.
BTW I'm not wanting Black Ops so badly... I just feel discriminated when my parents denied to buy it or let me buy it myself. They think that I am irresponsible when I am responsible.
MY WHOLE POINT HERE IS... IF YOU'RE AN ASIAN LIKE ME... WHEN YOU'RE OLDER AND HAVE A FAMILY, PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE MY PARENTS... ASIANS HAVING A 70 TO 90 REPORT CARD MARK EXPECTATION STANDARD IS ENOUGH...
BUT TAKING IT FOR GRANTED ABOUT YOUR WAY OF LIFE/BEHAVIOUR, AND ACTING LIKE A STRICT-ASS LIUTENANT IN A MILITARY CAMP... IS JUST TOO FAR.

just a thought. -

OT: I forgot to tell you, I got my report card yesterday and my parents have been nagging this WHOLE day.

Hey SPOP, I'm just like you. My parents are Vietnamese. They had a hard life, always filling my head with stories about how hard there life was. And it did affect me. They always freak when I get bad grades and bad scores on tests. Just show them your A's, that might help.

My school is half Asian. o.o Kinda hard not to have an Chinese friend. ROFL.
My parents only care if I have smart friends. But they most likely have to be Chinese/Asian, White, but rarely black. But I have plenty of mixes in friends.

MMMM....
that is a typical main land chinese.
$3 says they want you to marry a chinese person to...
my parents (thankfully) came from England, so they identify more with other races than the mainland chinese do. -

I'll admit it...
I'm facing a similar fate as most Brazilians in Crossfire... As you know, most Brazilians play cheap games like CF because it's 100% allowed in CF... consoles are expensive in Brazil and most games are banned because they consider it being too violent.
Unlike the Brazilians in CF, which their government banned their games... MY PARENTS banned me from having games (decent ones like Black Ops, Bad Company 2)... Like the Brazilians... I was pushed into playing CF only... it's one of the most decent games I can play at the very least...
I'm sorry if I offended many Brazilians in the past... but seriously, you still gota play a bit civilized (like stop trying to attempt to hack, and hacking when given the chance). -
Man, I have one of my black friends over, my moms like IYAH, HOK GUI.
I got a B+ in History, and my mom starts to freak. She sayss that if I get another B+, she'll beat me. Coincidentally, my blood test results are back, and my blood types a B Positive.
Mom: BEE PRAS AGAIN?!?! U DIE NOW. -

Polish parents are same as Asian(sometimes)
My parents say that im learning for my self not for them
The worst is,that when im playing crossfire my dad says that its shi* and He says that i am agressive by the game(im not) he wants me not too play cf cuz he dont like it.He thinks that cf is just a piece of shi*
My mum doesent care what games i play so i dont have a double problem
Also when i wanted to buy zp my dad wont let me :-( but finnaly he gave me 24.90 pounds
10 pounds gone for zp and 14 gone for something else,i think it was i very good strings for guitar -
Im a father of two- 19yr old boy & a 9 year old girl. First I know ur parents want what (in their minds) is best for u. But I still understand your pain, & I am glad that I took a different approach with my children. Is a hard job to get the balance right tho, so dont be hating too much my friend:) I wish u all the best in ur future sir:)

.....
It's not about a certain ethnicity. It's about the parent's ethics.
Scoring below an 80% is undoubtely terrible.
Hit them books. Get some friends to study with.
<- #2 student in Michigan (class of 2013)
Then china's ethics are "if you don't get an A on the pop quiz, no dinner for 30 days."
Those mainlands are very picky...
i know from experience.
