I just got a computer upgrade for CF

For about two years I have been playing CF on the lowest settings barely managing fps at about 60. The computer had a nvidia nforce 630i/7100 which was integrated. The new computer has ATI Raden HD4200 which is also integrated. But it doesn't feel like it, on all low settings I manage 130-200 fps and on highest settings, maxed out, I get about 100-120fps. This card sure doesn't feel like it is integrated. I can also play a few FPS's but I just leave it at CF and CSS because my PS3 handles the rest. On the upside, the increased FPS and the ergonomic mouse they gave me with the computer now made me 3x better in the game and I can quickscope easily with m700. Nevertheless, I am still bad :[. The computer is quad core, 8 gigs of ram, ati radeon hd4200, 1 TB of storage, and windows 7 HP 64bit, overshadowing my previous rig. Very satisfied, and it was cheap with 23" moniter and wireless printer, all for 500 dollars. Now I can be half decent at this game :D.

PS: I don't lag in smoke or any type of explosion. :D.

I stopped reading cuz I have lowest settings, also, and manage around 13-15 fps in a 1v1 :(
  • I hope you did not upgrade JUST TO PLAY CROSSFIRE?
  • No not just for CF. I lag a lot in CSS and BF2 so I upgraded for that too. Also some free games like AVA I could not even play on lowest settings.
  • So what do you guys use and what FPS average do you maintain?

I also brought the ATI Radeon HD 4200 on Black Friday for about 500$ (it' was originally ~900$)

We got the same exact computer? ._.

Although I haven't set it up, I'm happy that I'll get around 100 FPS :D35jeecy.jpg

Your video card would need an upgrade if you want to play the newest games smoothly, rest looks decent enough.

But it looks like a laptop though...

It's a desktop, and it's what I have a PS3 for. I needed this for CF/CSS/BF2. Anyways, I tried it on some modern demos and it works fine on medium settings so I don't really care, as long as it looks pseudo-amazing and playable at the same time, like CF is now at 120-200fps.

Yo, Mwa sup bro? Long time no see. I see you've been stalking me. Did you get it at Best Buy? Mine was for $600 dollars. HP p6624y? Very funny if it were the exact same :D.
  • For 500$ it's a fair deal, no question about it.

Why would you even play crossfire with that fps? Or even any game. The lowest I would play on is 30 fps.

Crossfire wasn't designed to be working on 486s.

Lol, this rig is amazing and cheap. Don't be turned down by the fact that the HD4200 is integrated. It is excellent and performs well. Too bad you missed out :(.

Really? They had like 20 packages just sitting there. People these days aren't conscious consumers. They were all going for the 1,000$ computer with no moniter/printer and all they had was like 3gb ddr3 ram and some measly processor. This is the first computer I got with AMD, and I always go for intel but I was surprised at its performance, but it is Quad Core and it is really fast with windows 7 64 bit :D. You should Should set it up soon, its a beast! :D.

You won't care about fps with this rig. It will be over 100 for sure, no matter the resolution.

Probably not. How do you play Crossfire on a Mac, are you using a VM or bootcamp? I am not very educated in the field of Macs :(. How do you right click on a mac? I know its a key, but for me it would be uncomfortable to push a key to maybe scope in with the m700. Sorry If I may bring out any misconceptions, I am not following the Mac brand, I stick to conventional brands like Dell and HP.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. Runs nicely and boots up/shuts down extremely fast compared to my old Vista Rig.
  • There is a program called boot camp that comes with every Mac, and using that program you can run windows 7, vista, or xp. I am currently using windows 7 home premium. So once you have a version of windows installed, it's a dual boot system, when you first turn the computer on you select what operating system you want to use. I also use a different keyboard and mouse that I do for Mac cause the mouse that I use for Mac docent even work on windows the keyboard does but it has a lot of keys on it that windows doesn't use so I have a separate keyboard for windows to. So when it's on windows all you see is just the windows operating system. There is also other ways to run windows, one is called parallels, it allows you to run Mac and windows at the same time. And for right clicking while on Mac, the mouse can sense if your finger os on the right or left side of the mouse, so it your finger is on the right side it will right click and the left side will left click so the mouse is all one button.

Here's something that can help you understand how the apple magic mouse that I use works
