virus
Ok, im getting the same error for loading as everyone else:
File is changed: W[2007]L[2]
crossfire.exe
i have a great antivirus program (payed lots for it) and mods are saying that cf doesnt have viruses (false positive), but how can they guarantee no viruses when there r always hakers?
i think the solution is adding exception to antivirus program, but i dont wanna risk that because my antivirus program is very reliable.
So, is there any other solution to get rid of this problem? I've had this problem for 3 months...
Thanks

Clearly not that reliable if it thinks CF is a virus
It ISNT a virus. Use your brain -
i mean like how can u be sure crossfire is a false positive considering hackers can get past xtrap
Why on earth would there be a virus on a widely known game? If you honestly believe that, then your retar.ded....
And whats hackers getting past XTrap got to do with anything? -

I think you might be misled as to what a hack and a hacker and a virus is. But let's cover all the bases here.
1. Antivirus Programs - There are many out there, most of them are pretty good, at least the ones that survive on the market, and they vary in price. When you pay loads of money for an antivirus, you're not necessarily paying for a better antivirus, you're just paying for more unnecessary features and customer support that you'll likely never use. In fact, there are several free antivirus programs that do the same BASIC job as most expensive antivirus programs but without all of the (in my opinion) unnecessary features. What I'm saying is, more money does not equal better quality.
2. Crossfire: False Positive - As mentioned before, I think you are severely misled as to what a hack, a hacker and a virus is. Crossfire is a false positive for SOME antivirus programs. My antivirus is the best on the market, according to me, and it does not register Crossfire as a virus or a security threat. I did not have to add exceptions for Crossfire. If my antivirus allows it to pass, I think you'll be fine adding it as an exception. However, if you still don't believe me, let's look at this logically. There are, I believe, over 1,000,000 Crossfire users. If Crossfire was a program that transmitted viruses, I highly doubt that many people would play it - with numbers growing. In addition, Crossfire doesn't make money by attacking your system. It makes money off the stuff it sells in game. More than anything, they strive to keep the game safe and online to secure a higher return of profits. To sum it up, a false positive refers to when your antivirus program identifies a non-malicious file or program as a virus. The key here is NON-malicious. Many TOP OF THE LINE antivirus companies (McAfee, Norton, Symantec) have been culprits of detecting non-malicious files and programs as viruses and effectively disallowing users to use those programs and/or causing a negative impact on system performance (such as mistakenly removing essential operating system files... doh). So before you believe your antivirus, you should really read into the problem you are experiencing with your antivirus and/or research the antivirus before purchase.
3. HACK - In Crossfire, a "hack" is a file that you can download that effectively re-configures or modifies their own specific program. As a result, these users may have special abilities that others don't normally have. This is because the "hack" is a modification of the user's program. The "hack" can not be transmitted across Crossfire. It must be downloaded on a specific site, outside of Crossfire.
4. HACKER - In Crossfire, a hacker is: 1) someone who downloads this program OR 2) is someone who can create such a program. However, please remember that these guys are modifying their OWN versions of Crossfire and are doing so by modifying the files associated with Crossfire.
So, here's the deal. You can complain about how Crossfire is a false positive but the only reason it is considered a false positive is because of YOUR antivirus program. A million other people play Crossfire, if you decide you don't want to because you don't want to make an exception in YOUR antivirus program to play a game that is offered to you for FREE, then you're really not going to affect Crossfire in the least. No one is going to run after you, pleading for you to stay. Please do some research before you make false accusations and talk about terms that you really don't understand, or understand how to use for that matter. -

By the way, this guy on the forums found a quick fix for this:
"Hello, hope this helps. go to ur program list and look for your z8 games folder, crossfire folder. inside the crossfire folder, look for the file version.ini. right click the file and open the properties tab. uncheck the read only button and click ok to apply. next, open the version.ini file. it should be in a note pad similar format. look for the file -latest version. change the number to 1054 and save the file. right click the version.ini file again and check back the read only button. You should be able to play now, this way saves so much more time than to download the game. Good luck! Cheers!!"
