Failed to download version.ini

Ok so today, I decided to get back to crossfire (after quitting it a couple months ago due to the same error I'm about to explain to you). So I downloaded crossfire and installed it, etc. But when I open it up, and I click 'start game' on the pop-up screen, it tells me CROSSFIRE PATCHER v5: Failed to download version.ini.

I recieved this same message a few months ago(which was the reason I just gave up on it). Let me add the fact that when the pop-up screen shows up (after I open up crossfire), the web pages with the updates don't show up and tell me that those pages cannot be displayed. Also, my brother also downloaded crossfire on his laptop, and it ran and opened up just fine for him. Infact, he's playing it right now (we're planning to play together, actually).

I've tried a lot of things. I know about the thread one of the admins posted up, but that doesn't really explain a lot. I even disabled my antiviruses and everything, but STILL, it doesn't work. I reinstalled it a lot, deleted all of its files and everything, BUT STILL, it fails to download version.ini. I just want to play some crossfire, man!

    same problem here, all i get is that error... everytime they release a new update i have to spend like 5 hours trying to fix Z8's f*%k ups.... to be honest i've almost had enough now.. how much money does Z8 get from this game? Maybe they should employ some GOOD coders...

    Oh and BTW z8.. nice to see that you spent the money we give u on adding new things... lol maybe next time if you are going to use the Halloween image at the Login you might want to take 20 seconds and change the copyright info from 2009 to errm maybe 2010 -.- ....

    And i would LOVE to see a new gun... that dont involve a old gun with a new skin ( m4 Crystal ) or the Reddraggon ( AWM-with new skin and + bullets ) .... i love this game but it would be better if you actualy got your fingers outta your asses and stoped counting all the money your making and remember why you made this game and why its gotten soo popular? .... anyways :)

    FIX THE UPDATES !!!! PLEASE !!!!
