Clan Ranking System (2010-2011 Edition)

Couple things.
The Clan Page updates once per day.
The DB is HUGE and we run a lot of queries on it. Could it be better? Yes! Does it take time to evolve and make it better? Yes!
Second thing, to the OP. You're not the only person who's had the idea of an ELO ranking system. There is some renewed interest in it based on competitive play recently. We also have some things that we can do, and some things we can't do. Or that would require major recoding and structure etc.
Suffice to say, it's a great idea. And it's definitely something we'd like to see. Timelines, implementation, possibilities etc.. That's another story.
We're starting anyways with some new stuff, like actually making clan wins count for something (this weekend). Farmed or not, this is the first time we've done something like this. Look for future stuff involving "clan wins matter" coming soon! -

Will the clan wins count towards rank?
IMO rank doesn't matter, but to see all foreign clans being in the top 10 because they farm is a bit ridiculous.
All in All, I just hope to see things change, and maybe the Elo idea will eventually make it's way in to CF -
But would it not mean then that the top clans would maybe refuse to play clans that are a lot lower in ranking and get scared because they have more to lose than gain? This also happens in chess when grandmasters dont want to play young rising talent who have studied all chess books in history for fear of losing alot more ranking points than they can gain.

lol I suppose... and Chess actually uses the Elo Rating system xD -

You have to take into account that most "young and rising teams" in Cross Fire does not translate into teams that have practiced and mastered all the maps and tactics in order to beat top teams. The top teams are there for a reason and they shouldn't have a "fear" of losing anyways. You win some, you lose some. That's the point in playing. Most of the lower teams don't have the experience. I'm not saying that's the case for all younger teams, but a good majority. In any case, I doubt it would be a huge issue. It's possible this would be the case for a few selfish and stubborn teams but not in whole. -
Will the clan wins count towards rank? That is the general public's interest/concern and has been for a long time.

For this particular weekend the clan wins are just being used to give people some bonus GP.
We realize that farming clan points is not a way to gauge skill. We would never take clan points away, or sorting by clan points. But we want to be able to introduce a system where you can also gauge some sort of skill of a clan.
To do this we need to find a way around farming wins. Which is where an ELO style system comes in to play.
Implementing that system is easier said than done however. Which is why I don't want to say anything that is going to get everyone's hopes up for something immediate. More-so I just wanted to say that we definitely agree with the ELO style system. If we were, or could, or would implement proper skill-based rankings it would most definitely be based on this kind of thing. -

I am not saying its not good idea i think on the whole its a better system than the current one was just an observation on how some clans might avoid playing lesser teams more often to avoid losing lots of points.Would be amusing if some good players start setting up new clans on alt accounts whipping the big clans and reducing their points significantly. -

Oh ok
I thought at first you were talking about something other than the new event.
Because on the clan page there is the clan matches won/loss and the clan match request, they both have not been activated and I thought you meant, along with the event this weekend, these would be activated xD
Well hopefully we do see something using the Elo Rating System to sort out the ranks.
I actually just got a thought that maybe there could be a separate list, maybe below the current top 10, which would use the Elo Rating System and show the top 10 scrim clans... lol idk, just throwing ideas out there

That sounds like a good idea. Then label the two categories top farm clans and top scrim clans -
got it

i'd like to have that system, since i have to face these brazilian farmer clans everyday, and they really think they're the best because of rank, when at least 500 brazilian clans could win easily or make a face-to-face with them, including mine. Down with these farmers.
