Clan Ranking System (2010-2011 Edition)
So as you all may know, the Clan and Individual ranking system is all based off of EXP and not skill or anything of that sort... There is one way to fix this (maybe just for the clan rank, not sure it would work individually) is to use the Elo Rating System , this would be the best way to have a more accurate rank...
Back in 2009 I posted on the suggestions about this issue and my friend G2Wolf came up with the Elo Rating System... and here is our conversation which would easily answer anybodies questions about it. ->

Now that I think about it, maybe the Elo Rating System would be a good idea.
It'd make farming impossible and do a decent job at distinguishing the good clans from the bad, because you have to keep playing against higher ranked clans to keep moving up, but if you start losing to weaker clans, you'll be dropping down the ranks. Would be a pretty good system to use imo.
Maybe 2 lists are needed? 1 based on tournament rankings and 1 based on an ingame elo system.
TR would measure a team's ability in a competitive scenario while the elo rating would give just a general skill (or hack) level.
lawl at the (or hack) level. hahaha
but for real... wofly poo is right on the button with the ranking systemfor individual and clan... (totally individual ranking has nothing to do with clan ranking btw, just throw that in there lol)
no, with elo rating system... if ur clan keep facing low ranked clans, then ur clan doesnt go anywhere.... ur clan continuously has to face higher ranked clans than face farmed on clans that would have absolutely no rank (very very low rank), to even move up... farming a clan rank is virtually impossible =D
of course this elo system would only be used for clanwars via the beta clan server.. it would basically take the scores, set them into the system and submits automatically, then calculates do to the clans ranks to how many points are gained or lost from each clan..
with this system, they can actually separate what clans are best at S&D, GM, EM, ect... and have a sub ranking for that too.... that would also help with official tournaments, do to the fact it would show which clans are S&D clans and GM clans... basically.. the ranks would look like this on a clan page ->
MY CLAN NAME
clan rank #1
S&D rank #1
TDM rank #1
GM rank #1
EM rank #1
its actually very simple to put into games, there are some that use it and automatically does everything for the MOD's and GM's ..... im sure it would take time to do tho, bc it would have to be coded into the game...... but at least it would be coded to work in one server instead of all.... i think if this idea comes to effect, then all ranks should be restarted, every clan is rank 0 starting with 1000 points, and all new clans start at 1000 points... every night the points would be updated 12am EST
For the system to work properly, a team's elo rating needs to be updated right after any match.
You could have the overall team ranking system (1. aaa clan, 2. bbb clan) update once a day to reduce server load, but after any match the 2 teams that played need to have their elo rating adjusted. A good idea would be just to show elo rating in game, and people would have to check the site to check clan ranking (kinda like how it is now). Clan ranking would update once a day, elo rating would update after every match. Wouldn't be too server-intensive since it'll be only changing 2 teams' ratings after a match, and not refreshing the whole clan ranking list to adjust everyone's ranking.

Thank you very much
but about learning Korean, I don't think that will happen, but i know Koreans who play LMAO

Haha yeah. Unfortunately, it's very hard to push in-game suggestions. The final decision is with SmileGate on any kind of in-game content implementation. Sure, G4Box can suggest certain things but it's ultimately not G4Box's decision. We can try
Who knows what could happen. Not to mention they'd have to wipe out the current system on the site, which means considerable downtime for the website. This would be pretty complex to pull off, but it would be quite nice. -

ya i know a few people who can translate it but it'll cost jk. hahaha but seriously. It would take a while to translate. -

It would be nice... The downtime could just be the clan page, right? They could do the Website stuff while the servers are down for the patch that will implement the new system. So really there wouldn't be anything lost by it. This game would have THE BEST ranking system of any game and not to mention, very unique. It could actually change how F2P games implement ranking systems, now and for the future.

Z8's clan page updates like once every year....
This kind of system would need updating every hour or so... but yeh I like the idea +1 from me too.
Even though I don't really mind the clan system now, we all know who the skilled players and who the farmers are ^.^ -

Actually the clan page would be updated once per day just like it is now, but the Elo rating system would automatically input who won and who lost, what their rank was previous, then calculate how many points each team gets or loses, right after each and every clanwar. So, though the clan ranks may not visually be changed on the clan page, it would actually be changing every time a clan has a clanwar. Believe it or not, This would be done by no one but the system itself, and it's actually less complex than the 500exp = 1cp.
Though the points given or taken have been inputted, the actual clan rank will not change visually until the clan page is updated.
tbh, the clan page probably wouldn't need to be updated but once per week with the Elo Rating System, but this would be z8/G4's decision on how often it would be updated.
To add, this would actually lessen the time it takes to update a clan page, so now that i think about it, it could be updated multiple times per day.
Like I said, it would ultimately be z8/G4's decision on when the clan page would be updated.

Finally a really worthy suggestion is shown

Good job on it, even though we all know who the first two clans would be
Yeah, I suggested something like this over 1 year ago, but the Elo system was suggested later in the thread. The conversation was spread through the thread and people probably didn't even realize what the suggestion turned in to.
When someone reminded me about the ranking system being a failed system and that there had to be a better way of doing it, I quickly thought of my old conversation back when I was an ESL-NA admin. I then looked for it and posted this to where it would be easy to see and read.
ESL uses this system for their ladders and that's where the idea bloomed from. -
+1
but, if the high rankes clans, would get points just winning from highest ones, and not the lowest, y would they scrim with low ranked, if they'll just lose rank? i think it could get points from winning on low ranked clans, but much slower, depending on the difference of rankings, u'll get even less.
and of course clans have a first line, with the best players y would they let the 'not too pro' players play, if they'll have more chances of losing? i don't have any idea bout that, anyway, i liked it.

Clans don't lose points for winning against lower ranked clans, they just make much much less points than if they faced a clan that is a higher ranked clan. I know what your saying though, and that is the point. This system would be used to rank the best skilled clans. The point to this ranking system is to make clans face better clans to rank up. Clans facing low rank clans will take longer to rank up, but their points will continue to grow as long as they win...
"To be the best, you must beat the best"
example (hopefully this helps) ->
clan rank #1 wins against clan rank #100 = +5 points
clan rank #100 wins against clan rank #1 = +50 points
clan rank #1 loses against clan rank #100 = -50 points
clan rank #100 loses against clan rank #1 = -5 points
Now if the ranks are closer it would be more like this ->
clan rank #1 wins against clan rank #2 = +25 points
clan rank #2 wins against clan rank #1 = +29 points
clan rank #1 loses against clan rank #2 = -29 points
clan rank #2 loses against clan rank #1 = -25 points -

+1 for this, it's way better than 500xp=1pt.
That's my exact thought. I actually think it would be easier to keep track of so to speak. I mean think about it, 10,000 clans with 10-99 clan members and each individual player has to be accounted for... that's between 100,000 - 990,000 players (rough estimates)
If the Elo rating system was implemented, the new system really only needs to account for the actual clans, not necessarily the individual players... this would actually help with their (z8/G4's) "system overloads"
