GUIDE - Performing A Clean Installation Due To Errors
** Please read this entire guide to ensure you understand the process involved **
This guide has been written to assist users in performing a clean installation of Crossfire.
It may help users who have problems loading/running Crossfire, including but not limited to:-
Simply installing Crossire over the top of an existing installation may not help, as files may be in use and/or files which are causing the problem may be corrupt or exist separately from the uninstall process.
Similarly, uninstalling via Control Panel then reinstalling may have the same problem with left over files, causing the same problem again after installation. The uninstall process itself may also be corrupted resulting in a failed or incomplete removal.
The Windows registry also contains various code/settings which may be preventing Crossfire from working properly. As previously mentioned, this code can be left behind after a standard reinstall. This may be resolved by using a recommended registry cleaning program such as CCleaner.
If you suffer any of the above problems, please try the following.
** Make sure you follow this in order **
1) Restart the computer.
2) Remove any hacking utilities you may have used.
3) Uninstall Crossfire the usual way:-
4) Restart the computer.
5) Delete the Crossfire games folder.
6) Download, install and run CCleaner.
7) Restart the computer.
8) Disable all anti-virus and spyware/anti-malware programs you have running.
9) Download and Install the latest Crossfire installer.
10) Leaving your anti-virus and malware programs disabled – Test the game.
11) If all goes well, restart the computer and test the game again.
Note: I make no guarantees that this will solve the problem for you, but it will give you the best chance for a clean installation, before you can look at other problems which may be causing you issues, such as graphics drivers problems, file system errors or internet connection problems.

Still asking for this to be a sticky as alot of people are having these kind of problems. I know it might not work for everyone but it is bound to help in some cases.
NOTE: It is important you follow step 5 as this will not only delete the crossfire folder but also the x-trap folder which can be causing problems.
Uninstalling the game does not delete alot of the files used by crossfire, including the updates. It only removes the main program, so when you reinstall the game those files will still be there causing problems.
You must delete the crossfire folder! -

I'm getting this error on my new laptop, I tried installing, reinstalling, uninstalling, reinstalling etc etc etc and used "Desktop Maestro" for clean ups.
I also tried downloading from Wescoast, East coast and even using the downloader all to not avail.
I think as the guide suggests it's something in windows interfering with the download, I will try a clean install later and will disable all things that offer protection "Windows defender" etc.
The biggest problem that I have is the new laptop has Windows 7 it's like a maze until I get used to it. -
I didn't expect this to solve everyones problem. Just because it hasnt solved your problem, which may be an issue with something else, doesn't mean it won't help others. I don't work for z8, I'm just a player like you and I provided some help out of my own spare time for the benefit of others.

Absolutely.
Was just commenting and seeking help with my problem.
It turns out, It's was a video driver related issue lol -

Could I ask what graphics card you have and what driver you installed which fixed the problem?
i didnt say "you fail" i just said FAIL.thiis isnt your fault it is z8gammes's fault -
same answer from tech support
Yep, the same answer to my questions about CF not working on Win XP 64 bit just 2 minutes ago.
"Please try our common solutions for issues, which can be found at the following link:

If you require further assistance, please post in our Tech Support forum. Thanks."
Same answer every time. Nothing. My opinion is they are not even looking at it. -
hey thnks for this guide, i did everything on the list in order and crossfire worked, I just got on today and it game me the same error it was giving me yesterday before reinstall....
now its giving me the same error... file changed W[0000]L[0
EDIT: srry it was... File is changed: W[2007]L[0] -
Remember CF will never work on Win XP 64 bit
Remember CF will never run on Win XP 64 bit and Z8 has no intention of fixing it. Just remember that and don't waste your time trying to get it to work. If they tell you they will fix it it's just a LIE. Forget it and play COMBAT ARMS. (combatarms. nexon . net) -
so..i don't want to disable my anti-virus. i paid good money for it and it comes in handy. i know i have to disable it before i re-install crossfire and the first time i run it, but can i turn it on again when i play? or do i have to turn it off when i'm playing?
thanks -
I'm getting the stupid client corrupted error. I know what caused it to start happening though. I was getting ialrmnt5.dll errors with other games so I attempted to fix that file. When I removed the driver file and then replaced with the same file from Intel, ever since then my game has been giving me file corrupt errors when I try to load it up.
Apparrently this game ties itself directly into your graphics chipset's driver files... would've been nice to know that before repairing that file so I could've backed it up even in its broken state. Now I have no clue how to re-insert this game into the new ialrmnt5.dll file and reinstalling does nothing to fix it.
