In no way am I referencing any other communities in this discussion. I am referencing this community. There is a common ground where respect should be given, regardless of who you are talking to or interacting with.
Accepting the problem does absolutely nothing as Goddish has conveyed. That is in essence giving up before I've even had the chance to try. A community can be set right no matter how bad it has become. It only depends on how much effort and work its community members, Moderators, GM's etc. are willing to put into it to make that happen.
I am not saying it will be easy. In fact, this will probably very challenging to do. But it can be done. Someone mentioned their opinion on only 1% of the community caring about this. I replied to him saying that means there is still a chance, no matter how small the chance is. Accepting failure is just as bad as the problem itself. -
Polleus for PresidenetPolleus for dictator!
Haha. That's taking it a bit far don't you think?
I don't see myself any different than all of you. Just trying to inject some life into people who may have previously given up or stopped trying with this community. We have to start somewhere right? -
This thread went from being a thread about the communities respectful issues, to about Polleus and his new well earned moderation position. Haha.

Unfortunately, I find that free FPS games lack the maturity and understanding that games like Counter-Strike and competitive Call of Duty communities have. It's a shame to mix this bad community with a decent game. -

Yeah I'm trying to turn it back to the discussion. Haha. I believe this game, with time, can have the same maturity and understanding. It's all about setting the standard. Counter-Strike and Call of Duty set the standard. Many people have given up on this community before it even has had a chance to mature.
Also, you can not really compare the two community types. You are bound to get a different demographic of people on a P2P game versus a F2P game. However, we can do our best to keep up. It's all about attitude. Remember, how long has Counter-Strike been around? Call Of Duty even? Now answer how long Cross Fire has been around. Give it time

No he really didn't, but that's a different story for a different day. You'll just defend him because your a mod, so I won't even push this.[MOD]Polleus wrote: »Of course he knew what he was asking for.
I totally agree. There was massive respect in this game a year ago (Sept-Oct 2009) before Saidin got into his head that this game had to be competitive. Clans like Trio, c2, FGT, Clover, aDr, Sorry, and the GM clans (there used to be a LOT of them) back then had respect for each other. I still have respect for the people who made up these clans to this day. There wasn't this constant trash talking and bipolar attitude on forums.I don't care if it's a competitive community or not. There is an acceptable standard that says everyone should have a common grounds on respect. Sportsmanship, respect, whatever you want to call it. There should be some of that present in every game, competitive or not.
However, you can blame this new competitive community for being the catalyst into this crap community. Go back before WOGL was announced, then look after WOGL was announced. I really do not need to say more. You can not blame just the competitive community. That is an ignorant statement and also is using them as a scape goat. There are many more people in the public community over the competitive community and people outside of it act just as bad. We are all at fault and we are ALL accountable for our actions. -

Generally speaking, games that require to be bought will generally have a much greater maturity rate. Due to the fact many people who we could label as immature, are under the age of 13, and their parents wouldn't want them to spend that much money on a online game. Then add in the fact some of the new computer games require a much higher quality of a computer would get rid of some of the immature and disrepectful people left over. People that can afford to run those such games, are usually in college, or atleast end of highschool, and hopefully are quite respectful.
I'd like to see Crossfire continue its ways, yet changes need to be made. It's the fact that people that don't contribute to the community (trolls, and such) are still around for a very long time. Respect is a big thing in this community, yet people who are extremely disrespectful are hardly banned unless they start to hack in-game? Thats a bit faulty. I've seen many people attack moderators on the forums, and troll just about every topic, yet they still remain within the community? Or they simply make a alt account? -
Polleus, how come you use the avatar that I made? I hardly expected anyone to use it.
Loololol, oh yeah congrats on Mod. Good thread too.
It's an awesome avatar. I do make it to Fan Works quite often

I agree. Changes do need to be made. I am trying to help open that door to encourage people to contribute more often. There will always be people who want to challenge the system, regardless of what kind of community there is.
The goal is to stick to what we as community members can influence, which is other users. Set the good example. Deal with the bad seeds as they come. But stay the course and eventually it will all work out for the better. Like I said, it comes down to attitude. -
Perfect post. I agree with this completely. Too many people disrespect each other over who's better. This doesn't go on only with competitive players either. I see this in pubs so much. I created a clan, to keep peace and just be chill. I try to help the community, but no one listens or just blatantly says something dramatically stupid. I say "don't disrespect others" and people come up with the stupidest responses. I am 13 years of age, but I have enough common sense not to be so disrespectful. I guess it comes from my parents. And to all the people who say this is all the fault of 12-15 year olds, please don't. Because I know so many 12 year olds who have more common sense and logic than 8-% of this community.

Although i admit i do my fair share of insulting people for insulting others in-game. But i take full action for those. But sometimes the best is keeping negative things silent and let only constructive criticism take part.
But apart from that, i tend to notice that the FPS genre has a more... violent and immature(?) community as the age progresses, but i rarely do see that kind of thing for MMORPGs. Not to mention that some people call themselves "PRO" which is bluntly, a person that gets a monetary salary in specialized educational fields or earns money in a field for hobbyists (like gaming) which i doubt all the people i met that call themselves pro get paid in playing CF, and the fact that some gamers create this ego that they are better than everyone is troubling at times.
But oh well, im hear to play the game, not here to go into a debate... Plus ignoring whiny kids is great. -
its the brs fault
they are a bad influence
if u think about it every game u are yelled at by some br whether ur doing good or bad, im sure it just rubs off
they **** me off sumtimes to the point where i want to yell at everyone
so i try reverse psychology (read ign) but brs dont speak english...
br:No1 heks!
me: yes there is no one hacking
br: no1 cry hecks!
me: yeah you guys should stop -
Where has the respect gone? I don't believe there's ever been a general use of respect in any FPS, at least not in the public and non-competitive league part. In most public games, you typically experience at least one non-respectful player that will accuse you of hacking, and try to create a flame argument that has no purpose.
I don't believe there's a real solution to this, but in my opinion, it happens in most FPS games because there's not enough moderation when it comes to in-game chat moderation or out-of-game report moderation. Also the penalty for being disrespectful is not very harsh and often results in no punishment, which is the reason most people believe they can constantly get away with it.
Even when it comes to competitive play, 'professional' players feel their a tier above other players, and are often quite rude to the lesser experienced, or those that are out of the competitive circle. But unfortunately, that is FPS gaming for you. -
Oh if only we could show the parents of these children what they are really doing on the internet. As my parents would put it, Big Sh*ts make Little Sh*ts.
Nuff said about parenting.
if my parents found out what i was doing/saying ... well, lets just say ... R.I.P -
And why is that so unenforced? Hell even a quiz or something upon installation and patches would make me alot happier. Now granted is is explicitly stated in the rules that one must be able to speak English in this game, but it is the least enforced one in my opinion.
Your rebuttal? -
Some kind of verification might be done to make sure they are actually above 13, not 10, but again that will ruin the whole "register and play free now" idea.
I don't think you can make 50 thousand user behave well [in short time], when there is no consequences if they didn't.
So another suggestion is paid/premium server/users?I can't really have a stable conversation with a foreigner w/o being insulted tbh.
So everyone from a different country than yours insult you? that makes sense. -
Like I said before, the best we can do is reach those (in this forum community) who can understand what is going on. We obviously can't reach those outside of the English language without translating every word on this thread, haha. So for now, we must accept that we can only reach a small population of Cross Fire. However small, this is still an important part. Let's do what we can to make a difference where we can.
-
The closest i get to insulting people in this game is when they cry that i speed hack in gm.

Of course i don't, but i respond with, "lolz i don't speed hack just go report me and have fun." then i just don't say anything else and keep playing. "bugle is hack.er! kick! hes 14-3 impossible! hack.er!!!" i don't even bother to say anything because if i get kicked i can just join another room and do it again.
I try not to argue mainly because i don't like to spend my time arguing, simple as that. just don't waste your time arguing with them and you wont have a problem. -

Think about that before you disrespect another player because he/she did the same to you.
Don't blame the 12-15 year old kids, blame the 15-17 year olds with their egos's teaching those kids or maybe representing as a role model for said kids to act such way. The children are never th source.
Tried to be clever didn't work.
Role models^_^ we are not talking about a thing that matters.
My ' role models' for the game are those that have vip hack that has anti kick and name change every game

Sarcasm doesn't work. Nor should it be on this thread.
Hackers are being taken care of, and in a big way now that we have some new resources.
The hackers aren't the only ones in this game to be blamed. Many people are, even those who don't hack. No one is free of fault.
Now, Polleus can clean this thread as he wishes, but I'll end with a few last words for everyone as a warning.

Sarcasm works in the UK!
You should go there some time

My team is better, no my team is better. It happens with non-competitive players/teams as well. Everyone is at fault. The general lack of respect needs to change. This community, the forum community, would be MUCH better off if that were to change.
You are still accountable for YOUR actions. Whether or not they treat you like that is irrelevant to how you treat them. The "eye for an eye" mentality doesn't promote growth. Sure it's VERY annoying to get kicked and called bad names. Just shrug it off. Know that YOU are a BETTER person than them for not doing the same thing. That is what I would call respect.
In comes the competitive nature of all people + devolution.
Oh yes, add an attitude that forces you to expect to be met with hostility every time you post anything ever.
