Things that need to be said and heard - Part 3
In this edition, I am going to do less talking and more asking
There are things that can be heard and said from more people than just me. I'd like to hear more discussion on this one. Part 2 was more of a informational thread rather than a discussion thread. So without further a due, here we go.
I. Contests and Tournaments
I. Contests and Tournaments
- In my opinion, I think events such as Contests and Tournaments are a necessary part of helping this community interact and improve both in-game and out of game. Such examples are the recent M4 Tournament, Pumpkin Carving contest or [MOD]Bruce's Grafiti contest. They don't always have to be serious, it's good to kick back and just have a little bit of fun sometimes

- My question to everyone is: What are your ideas and/or suggestions for future contests and tournaments? Either Z8Games sponsored or user-run. I would like to hear normal and unusual suggestions. Don't be afraid to give a suggestion, that's what this whole thread is for. Bring it on. If you don't like someone's suggestion, keep it to yourself please. The whole point is to encourage people to participate in forum activities.
- Credits, in recent discussion, go to iQuell for this idea. As we have established, the truth is most people on these forums enjoy recognition of their actions. Recognition feels good and usually makes you want to do more in order to receive more recognition.
- The idea of a Medal System: Awards given out only by the GM's to community members for different areas of playing a positive role in this community. These medals would show up next to your Forum name/avatar and be viewable in your profile for what you were awarded the medal for. I would like to hear suggestions as to what areas a medal could be awarded for or what the medal awards would be called, i.e. "Poster of the Month" or "Most helpful in Tech Help", etc.
- This kind of system could not be farmed like a Karma or Thank You system, but would still provide small recognition for good works. Hopefully, this would encourage positive and good works from more users on a more regular basis. Discuss.
- Do you think surveys mean anything in this community? Do you think that they could help in gathering valuable information and opinions on certain subjects? Do you think they are a waste of time? I'd like to hear opinions on this. I personally think we do not see enough of them. Maybe if we inject our ideas for the topics of surveys, we would see more of them.
- Now this was something I thought up recently, which ties in to the Tournaments discussion. What if surveys were used to steer the course of future tournaments? Example:
- The Moderators want to run a Tournament, three weeks from today. For one week, a survey is released to for the users to decide what kind of tournament is to be run. Such selections as 5v5 S&D, 5v5 Ghost Mode, 3v3 TDM, etc. Therefore putting the selection into our hands for select tournaments, which I think would give more involvement to the users. The second week is spent with registrations, rules, set-up etc. The final week is the tournament. Don't take this exact time line of events but I'm sure you get the idea. Discuss
- Other uses for Surveys that could provide GM's and Moderators more options to conduct surveys? Survey topics? Do you want more surveys? Feel free to discuss anything pertaining to this topic.

i still dont understand, why would karma be abused? i've been to forums with ppl that have 5k+ posts, but only like 4 karma points
With the demographic of users in this particular forum, karma would most certainly be abused in both the positive and negative karma points. I'm sure most would agree with that. This community is not yet at the point to handle that kind of a system. One day, I hope we can get there.Lily_Allen wrote: »Cool read, for a suggested competition, WCG Girls league would be cool. About the medals? Cool idea i guess, although i wouldn't care particularly.
If by surveys you mean, Polls on new content/ideas, Then hell yea.
The medals wouldn't matter to everyone. But the point is it would matter to someone. Whether or not it encourages 10 people or 100 people, I know for a fact it would encourage more positive posting. Especially in this forum. -
Well I will say this, I agree tournament and events are a big joy, but what makes me sad, is that fact people are just out to win it, and complain if they don't. This is what needs to be split up in certain events.
Yes, some tournaments are meant for winning, and in that, keep up the arguments guys, but keep it civil.
But the other side is, we need events that are just for fun, and doesn't really need an exact point, or prize, just to chill with the community, meet new people, and get away from the things that stress you in game.
That is why, like I did before I was a MOD, I will be hosting some Halloween and Christmas parties in CF, with vent and etc. Now it might not be every day because I too have an outside life haha, but it will be fun.
Now I do like the Medal System Idea, the only thing with that is if we did, we should open it up to the whole forum community, including Metin2. People need to be brought together and have a fair chance. That would be a job for our Community Manager. Saidin does alot for both sides, but I see him as the figure for CF, and putting more work on him, for both sections, would be a bit off. Now if both sections wanted to do separate things, that's fine, like Alcine and Saidin each do their own, but I think that it should be a community in whole. This would also bring the staff a bit closer to the Community. As some of us MODs try alot, is to be with the community, aswell do out job.
Surveys are a good way for receiving information, but when we do something like polls and etc, people just spam them with alt accounts, which makes it a bit tricky. And we can't just say disallow people with like under set amount of posts, that wouldn't be as fair. And with a click of a button, you can hide your IP, and without access to certain tools, even if it was same IP, we can't go around looking for every IP that is the same. Admins could, but again, alot of work on people who already have to much work. -
Fully agree with the 3 topics you mentioned.
We need different types of contests. Screenshot and video contests have a specific website section for them. What you could do, as a company, passes by making a poll where players could choose what type of contests they wanted to see. This is very important IMO, because it automatically generates socialization.
About the Medal system, well. I couldn't agree more. Since karma system is imperfect and it could be farmed, losing its point, a medal system would be perfect. WOGL already has this, and medals would be awarded by responsible staff (you, GM's), therefore it couldn't be farmed and it is a way for forumers to start acting politely.
And finnaly the survey system. This is good, I believe that GM's would like to know the players opinion on common subjects like tournaments, contests, things that they want to see improved, etc. -

Yes please. We are always open to events and contests and promotions. As a side note, one of the most frustrating responses to an event idea is. "Oh no here's one for the farmers."
Farming in the game is an inevitable consequence. We've added things like max cap exp's, kick-out timers for afker's and farmers. But there are always going to be a group of people who find a way to farm a game. Experience itself, the entire archetype, is based on a "more-you-play-higher-you-go" attitude. Unfortunately farming fits that attitude. It's no different than trying to farm that awesome unique from Pindleskin in d2. If you don't like it, don't let it bother you. We don't acknowledge farmers and we don't like them. But in most cases its too difficult to prove when someone is farming as such we can't put concrete rules in the game against it because we'd spend more of our time finding and investigating farmers when we need to be focusing on events. Or more importantly, hackers and other support ticket requests.
But the point is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send us event, tournament and contest ideas. We do these things for you. So if you have an idea send it in!
And if you want to run your own events please do as well. You don't always need us to run a mini event with your friends or forumers etc.III. Surveys - A different take
Forum Polls is definitely on the list of things to activate for those types of members who might meet the same stipulations as sig images etc. We generally want to keep away from forum based surveys because they tend to go way off topic and involve massive +1 for me threads. But if it's done right we'll allow it. - In my opinion, I think events such as Contests and Tournaments are a necessary part of helping this community interact and improve both in-game and out of game. I fully believe the Medal System would do some good. There would be people that do care and don't care for the system, but that can be said about any kind of recognition system. I personally want to see more interaction from the users of the community. Whether or not that is through contests/tournaments/surveys, it really doesn't matter. I want to see more avenues and more ways for people to interact, where as now it's simply interacting through forum threads. -

We can "choose" our own tournament, but what will they set in it to "choose"?
If the medal system would come, it would be great!
I love your threads, Polleus
Haha I try. Another +1 for a Medal System. I like it

See I disagree with this, I play every tournament to win. Even if there is no prize or reward, I still want to finish first. You can have tournaments/events that are just for fun, but at the same time, remember there are plenty of people like me who want to win every single one. -
I agree with the tournament ideas. A bit of competition is necessary for a community to interact and learn more about each other, as that is what us, as a group and forum, are striving to do. Just as a thread before by you yourself Polleus, "We are reaching maturity."

We have to take baby steps to reach that maturity. A little health competition never hurts anyone. Whether you are in it to win it all or just have fun it doesn't matter. The point is to encourage participation from all kinds of people and teams. We need to expand this community as a whole, not just one group. -

Definitely. I would start some GFX tournaments / contests if I had the codes on PlaySpan or the time. Unless you want to do one with me. -
i'd like to see a knife tournament, no axe, shovel, katana,armor,spop/star. strictly knife, male chars and ur 4 teammates. no huge ZP rewards. 1st place custom knife with a signature/gold knife. 2nd place- 5000ZP, 3rd-2500 ZP. no entry fee, increase team registration cap so more clans can play,.etc...........
-
Thanks for the recognition Polleus. But to tell the truth, I just swiped the idea off another forum.
A definite +1 to the badge system.
The recent foumer's games and play with the GMs are also great things. I would like to some more of them in the future.
It would also be nice to have more tourneys.
Awesome ideas all round guys. Thanks for making the thread Polleus. -
I like the medal idea, however I don't think that will be added because of the time and resources it would take to maintain it on the GM's behalf.
Unless you want to make it so Mods can also give out Medals.
Which I wouldn't rather have.
You do have an excellent point.
But my idea of the medal system is to make them somewhat rare. For example, we could have one or two given out my the mods for being helpful "mini mods" by reporting spam consistently etc. The we could have a few other ones like the Medal of Honor in the US, where it is extremely rare and highly sought after. These could be handed out only by the GMs for things like extraordinary service above and beyond the call of duty. -

We could tie in [GM]Saidin's "forum benefits" with this idea. Certain medals unlock certain forum features and/or benefits. Just a suggestion
