I have mine @ dark. I'm not sure if that helps your eyes, or lower the brightness.

At the bottom left you can change it.

I use dark one,

White is to bright.

I could understand on an older monitor it being hard on your eyes. But with a newer flat panel that has softer light, doesn't bother me any ;P

But yeah, later on when I just got my desk lamp on, it's nicer to have a dark theme.
