"connection has been delayed" please help!!!

my friend showed me crossfire, and ive played at his house, and i liked it, so i downloaded it.

it works fine until i try to join a game, then it loads about half way, then goes back to lobby and says "connection has been delayed"

so all i can do is the tutorial over and over

please help
