Sound Problem

Alright, I just got a new computer with windows 7 64-bit. It's an hp Touchsmart 300. Here's the problem: whenever I play a match, the sounds always get mixed up. Like when someone's shooting on the other side of a wall, or i hear someone's foot steps, it'll be like they're slightly behind me and to the left, but they're actually in front of me, or they aren't even anywhere near me at all. Sometimes sound won't even come out at all. Basically, if someone is directly behind me behind me, I won't hear their footsteps, their weapon firing, reloading, anything.

I hope my description is clear enough, as this is a bit hard to describe. Also, the new computer has a widescreen, if that matters. My old one had a dinky 19-inch square lcd.

  • I think, I know what you mean...

You probably have set up your sound as you have 5.1 or 7.1 speakers while you only have 2.0 stereo speakers.

    Try setting it to stereo.
  • Bah, I forgot to mention I'm using headphones. Found the screen, I only have one option and that is: Stereo. Also, I've tried changing headphones, then I tried both of my headsets, and none of them make a difference.

Second edit: You know how you turn left/right to kind of pinpoint sounds, the sounds are coming from pretty much the completely opposite direction and they change position quite often. BEFORE YOU ASK: YES I'M WEARING THE HEADPHONES CORRECTLY. >_>

Third edit: now the sounds are randomly becoming a bit muted. Like if someone's shooting right next to me, it's really loud at first then bam, you can barely hear it anymore.
