Ok, its back to this problem.

I had this issue before but had resolved it by following these steps a MOD told me to:

Uninstall the game
Disable realtime shields on antivirus
Install the game
Add the game to antivirus exceptions
Enable shields
Run game

And it worked. Now Z8 updated cf AGAIN, 5 days after i bought 20k Zp and used it on stuff.

File is changed: W[2007] L[0]
crossfire.exe

I tried the old method and it does not work, i un-installed avast (my virus program) completely and re-installed AGAIN and it does not work. Is there any other solution? So far ive wasted $17 + 1.2Gb worth inernet to try and solve this. I know im not the only one.

Well, 24 hours no fix, no reply. this is great.

I uninstalled Avast antivirus what i normall use.
Restarted Pc
Installed AVG Antivirus
Disabled realtime + firewall
downloaded AGAIN 5TH TIME cf
tried it.

Happens to me every patch, takes about three days then you can play.

maybe i can help

go to crossfire folder and you will find a file name "version" copy it to your desktop
open it with notepad its gonna be like this

[VERSION]
LatestVersion = 1049
MinimalVersion= 1036
OwnVersion = 5

now on the "LatestVersion = 1049" you need to change "1049" to 1050 save and exit
now right click on "version" file and click properties and on the attributes choose "Read-only" after that click apply and ok, and thats it run the game

this allways happens to me....when ever there is a new update i always had to wait for 5 or moRE days to play cf again...this is really dumb okay?? GM's they have to stop this error and forever.

Ok i fixed it for vista users, using kezza's friends technique.

Coppy the file of (version) if u get my error posted on that link

delete the one inside crosffire

change the numerals of the file on your desktop to 50, set it to read only

drag it back into your file and run cf
