Client MFC Error
When I try to open the game an error pops up showing "Client MFC Application Has Stopped Working". Anyone have a fix? So far I have reinstalled, turned off my firewall/anti-virus, restarted the computer, redownloaded/reinstalled, and opened it directly. So far nothing has worked. This error shows up just after it loads the anti-hack system and before it loads the game.

I have the exact same eror right now...and I see this post was posted in year 2010...wow -
Same problem here since ~10 hours on Win 7 Pro SP1 x64.
While I was playing, the game crashed ("Send error report?"), after relaunching there was an Xtrap update and afterwards the appcrash.
Looks like a buggy Xtrap version to me.
Edit: here's the exact error message (in German, but it's the same format as posted by xnarutoleex above). Maybe this helps tracking down the bug.

We're unaware of any major problems with the game as right now there are thousands of people playing.
XTrap updates all the time, we'll look into the latest update to see if we can discover any specific problems.
Are you running other programs in the background when trying to play Cross Fire? Perhaps there is a conflict going on with the latest xtrap version? -
Yep I thought about that as well...so I took it one step further.
I turned of the software I have running aside (everything from AV, antispyware, TeamSpeak3, Firewall.), almost everything I can think of and still I get the same eror...
Also I asked around with my clan mates...none of them have that problem so I am a bit confused...
*I did try updating my drivers (didn't work)
*Reinstalling and deleting every trace (registry 2) of cf and reinstalling. (didn't work)
*Deleting the files in the X-trap folder
+ also replacing the files with my m8s files (didn't work)
I don't know if this matters but my OS is Vista 64 bit, I thought if everything else fails to install and switch to Windows 7 or even go back to Windows XP. -
-
I also had the same problem until about 2 seconds ago o.O
My computer has the option of configurable graphics, I changed the settings for crossfire from High Performance to power saver and boom it logs in. I am fairly sure the problem is graphics related.
Hope this helps! -

I run gamebooster
just gb nothing else -
Hi Saidin,
I'm using Comodo Internet Security as AV and Firewall, CF always worked without any problems with CIS running in the background. I don't like that you're asking me to turn off a security tool in order to run a game... Anyway, I did try that and CF still crashed.
No other programs running.
Edit: just saw the thread about CF and XFire. I'm not using XFire... -
Well, since everyone is saying that uninstalling their AV helped them, I decided to mess around with mine and I think I found a solution. Worked for me so try it out.
If you're using Comodo, go to the Firewall tab and click Define a New Trusted Application. Click Select, Then Browse, and find XTrapVa.dll and double-click it. Hit Apply and you should be good to go. -

this did not work for me.
uninstalling did. but the game keeps crashing after reinstalling comodo.
I have both avast and comodo on my laptop with a 32 bit copy of windows 7 and the game works fine on that.
looks like this has something to do with 64 bit windows 7 and comodo -
If you still have that MFC Application Error and use Comodo, try this:
1. Go to Defense+ Settings
2. Execution Control Settings
3. Add the CrossFire folder to Exclusions
Oddly enough, what I believe is happening is that CrossFire is being blocked as a result of a possible buffer overflow attack. -
No clue why there wasn't a log, I remember back then it used to pop up a message saying CrossFire was terminated due to possible buffer overflow. Now it doesn't pop up at all, but I figured it was worth a try to see if that was the problem since adding XTrapVa.dll to the Trusted Applications only worked that 1 time for me.
