A.W.M discussion

Hello
i would like to ask the experienced end of the crossfire community about whether an A.W.M is a noobcannon or not.

i have frequently been in games where people cry out: "oh-no another nooby awm user", and this has got me woundering:

do one-hit-kill sniper rifles classify as noobcannons becasue of their sheer power?
or am i just meeting noobs who can't play for toffee and are just showing their dread of getting owned by someone who can use a decent gun..

i would prefer an experieced player's answer if not a competitive player's answer, and i wouldn't like this thread to turn into a trolling match

thanks for any replies

  • Im a PSG RD user, but I know AWM is not a noob cannon. It does take skill too use. It isn't a 1 shot kill everywhere, so you have to aim just right to get a for-sure kill.
  • i am an Awm user, and yes, it takes skill to get good kills.

In a sniping match, 99% of the time the other team has AWMs. Maybe there's a random noob with the M700 or another pro with the PSG- RD (as seen above) or even a dragonov (which i ALWAYS pickup in prison, it's so fun !!!), but they will always have AWMs. and, if you're in an all weapons match...to get a 2KDR with the awm in matches such as egypt and ...any other close range map... you are classified as PRO...

so yes, it takes IMMENSE skill to use it, useless you crouch/camp in a corner. because all crouch campers are stupid and noobs.

in a sniping match, you have to beware of -YOU MUST MAKE EVERY SHOT COUNT. in TDM's you would most likely be shot down IF YOU miss, and against other awms, they probably have a beater reaction than you, so if you miss and can't hide, or they're suddenly around you, you're screwed. so to make sure you kill at least one when you jump out is essential.

as well as that, in a match where everyone has the same weapons, the rank board is pretty much in order of sniping skills in a match. plus, some guns are one hits apart from the head, such as the PSG-1 and Dragonv are pretty much bye bye in the chest.
  • ok
thanks for the reassurance guys :)
it's just i never like playing with any weapon advantage over others, it makes me feel a cheap player and i rearly use anything rother than ak, awm, m60 in a serious match, unless it's for the lols.
i really dislike being called a noob, and i dont really play much other than tdm pubs training my skills with one-shotting mah m60
i have recently discoved however how much of an advantage the awm-c extra 5 rounds are. it means io dont have to reaload and can easily take out 5+ targets at once if they pile me, which happens annoyingly often in pubs

it annoys me more, being called a noob because of my weapons, than being called a hacker

    thanks again

  • Also to prove the point, I believe atleast a good majority of the people in this game own AWM, so therefor not really a noob cannon if many have it, and it's the number one sniper choice.
  • I use PSG-RD, MSG90 and DSR-1.
Also, I like it how people with AWM-rd/xmas never have there guns called noob cannons. =|

wat. AWM only takes as much skill as the rest of the snipers, even less since you're guaranteed a kill even if you shoot in the chest/arms/stomach. Also a 2KDR in a tdm is nothing.

If you're gonna be sniping, you're better off using the range to your advantage. In small maps like eygpt, all you have to do is walk around your base and snipe people who jump up the blocks. As long as your team can hold the line so that the enemy can't rush your base, it's an easy 3-5 KDR right there.

Anways quick example to demonstrate how it's a sort of noob cannon:
There's a noob with an m700. He can't aim very well so he resigns to shooting people in the chest, because it's an easier target to hit. This doesn't net him a lot of kills. One match he decides to pick up and awm from a dead body. His previous tactic now works well enough that he might actually get a KDR higher than 1!

Seeing as you could replace m700 with m16 and awm with SCAR Light or m12s in this story, you can see how AWM can be considered a noob cannon.
  • The fact of the matter isn't about the awm being overpowered, it's about the opposing team being poor in terms of gamesense.

    For example:
    Ship TDM
I can hold the enemies secret passage / (their) right side of the map down completely with my awp, restricting their access to only (their) left, while pulling off madly positive scores, greatly impacting my teams kill to death ratio as well as giving map control. However, 2-3 nicely placed nades destroys me completely.

    Blackwidow SnD
There are usually 3-4 players who stay in BL spawn using awms, and they consistantly pick up frags on long A/B rushers (not to mention mid picks). The GR should do as their objective implies, and camp... not rush. However due to the 2:25 round time this becomes quite tedious.
  • Snipers

    AWM and DSR
Need aim for shot in the body (legs, chest, fingers, etc)

    PSG DRAGUNOV M700
Need skilled aim for shot only in the head (1 shot, some times 2); and 2 shots for the body.

AWM and DSR are better and more easy(100% of secure dead), PSG DRAGUNOV M700 are hard (50% of secure dead), try, play a game with AWM player, and use in 1vs1 the M700 (Look as the score down).

Depend of style of every player.

    PD One-hit-kill rifles (Only headshot)
  • snipers are NEVER EVER considered noob. its 1 hit kill for a reason, although its 80 dmg or so on legs as usual so if you screw up and get a leg shot you're out. it takes incredible skill and practice to use one, and if theres 1 good sniper, theres a EVEN better one out there always. you can never be too good at sniper, even pro's keep trying to get better and better.

that said, im avg with sniper so i never use it. im a rifler, and if you only okay with sniper dont use it. good riflers/snipers will easily take you out, its better to be decent at 1 aspect(rifle or sniper) than just be "okay" at one. its necessary to learn to quick scope if you are a sniper or you will fall to a avg player close distance, let alone the good players.
  • I don't like snipers so much, not because they snipe(sniping requires skills), but because they're kind of like pu.ssies...

They wait for you or camp most of the time and they're too afraid to meet you face to face.

But all in all, not a noob cannon. Requires a lot of skills.

i agree with u, its not fun being called a noob, but if ure good with a gun, use it and IMO just block chat the nooby QQ'ers
and since ik sm1 prolly gonna flame me and say im a noob scrub light user, i only use it when im having a bad day, and im an ace ak'er

OT: awm is NOT a noobcannon, mustve been playing with some REALLY noobish players xD, i mean its not like M12s, where u just spray the hell outta it, and the accuracy almost gets better

as opposed to a sniper being what?

    o.0

also, to put it into context every gun's first shot is dead on with exception of druganov and possible m700

    i can't wait for m700 adv/silver comes out:

m700 + silencer but same 2-hit kill chest 1-hit hs combo

    And the Scrub light?
  • Definitely takes skill to use, but out of all the snipers it IS the easiest to use for the majority of people. People don't give the Drag enough credit though... Sure it's a little inaccurate, and only really shines at close range, but boy does it pack a punch. 1 hit kill to the stomach + fast fire rate = Lolocaust
