CrossFire and other misc. errors.
I run windows vista home premium, and I found out as of just now that if you run all the .exe files of Crossfire, i.e. HGWC.exe. crossfire.exe patcher_cf.exe. CF_G4box.exe. in compatibility mode for windows xp sp2 that it works. The problem that I have when I do that though is that the sound goes all funny. Let me know if it works for you too. I will tamper around with the sound settings and see if I can fix it.
Also, I think it helps if you have ownership of the game folder as per the folders ownership and permissions settings. ???? -
X-Trap Error
If you delete your files in the xtrap folder, it will update them all. If it is an unstable internet connection, then try this..... http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
Download the TCP Optimizer to your Desktop, and run as Administrator. Simply set the speed of your connection and click optimal settings and apply. If it doesn't work, then you can recover the previous settings in the same program because it backs up the settings. -
All the files you need to play CF should be obtained when you download and install the game.
Everyone's folder might look slightly different depending on the version they started playing on (auto updating of the game doesn't necessarily remove old files). Uninstalling the game completely and removing previous versions of the game and installing a new version is the best way to get CF working.
Make sure your anti-virus is disabled or has the proper exceptions for when you download the game.
Additionally, you can check these two threads for common solutions.

My crossfire launches normaly (now that I reset text size for windowns Vista) however it says unable to find MSVCP80.dll and says to reinstall the application? I looked in the crossfire folder and MSVCP80.dll is THERE? Is there anyone with a copy of this file as it apears mine is corrupt or not working somehow... my firewall and AV have crossfire listed as exempt.
I want to play again but since I reinstalled I have been unable to... and I followed all directions for a "clean install" including running CCleaner, deleting the folder, etc...
This is getting frustraiting as now its saying its missing a file that apears to be there? ANYONE have any hints on how to fix this? -
what is the msvcp80.dll? its shown in my crossfire folder yet the game says it cant locate it? I did the "clean install" but still it cant find it?
Getting old trying to make a game work that worked fine for MONTHS and now says its missing files... I want some help figuring it out but the tech support is non existant aside from saying "Please check our technical support forum"... I did, I have, and I am HERE, but still ZERO help with this stupid msvcp80.dll issue.
I like the game ... I want to go back to playing it... but the uninstall/reinstall issues need much better support and perhaps a programmer that knows how to do it? It shouldn't take over a week just to get a game working again after a reinstall... where is the tech support? -
Well I received no help for the msvcp80.dll issue. It is its a C++ file that can become corrupted or deleted if you follow the "clean uninstall and re-install" directions. In all fairness I think its from the CCleaner deleting the registry entries which include shared files.
The only way i could fix it was to completely format and then reinstall windows vista home pro. I tried adding the .DLL to various locations and even tried to repair it with Microsoft word (it also requires the file and quit working after it was deleted)...
In short it was a huge headache but at least I can play again. It would have been nice if tech support would have at least said "we cant help you" or had any response instead of just silence on the issue... now back to shooting mutants... with a vengeance -

Ok Saiden, ive uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times like you say but is it normal for me to not have a "backup" and "XTrap" folder all together cuz im missing those two. I open crossfire folder and the only folders i see are "Log" and "rez".
