It's a RIFLE. Google or Wikipedia it, look at the ingame description. That being said, since it isn't fully or even semi automatic, fails at long range and reloads each shell individually, it completely fails at being a rifle.

The Winchester (fire arm line) is both shotgun and rifle. Even the Winchester in game does not tell us what type of round it uses, it's pretty obvious it uses a rifle bullet, namely the .44-40 Winchester, which is for rifles, not shot guns.
Also, you can tell it's a rifle due to the firing/reloading mechanism and the rifle's stock. -
You failed. It is a rifle, it is no more effective at close range than long. You treat it like a shotgun all you will get is 2x more kills than you would get with it normally.
It is a medium range rifle, MEDIUM, not long which everyone seems to use it for. MEDIUM, as in 15-30 feet.

So happened to the other 670 feet? Of course this amount of range would be overpowered, but the Winchester definitely needs an improvement. The damage drop off with range is ridiculous.

naw man, it's a lever action rifle, which was the standard repeating rifle reloading mechanism from the Henry Rifle during the Civil War to about the 1880's, when this bad boy was phased out.
basically, it's the precursor to the bolt-action rifle.

Well if you paid any attention, if you use a shotgun ammo pack, it will add up to the Winchester's total ammo. Thus, CF considers it a "shotgun".
It's a bolt action rifle, point granted though. -
The Winchester Rifle is a rifle which uses, for all intensive purposes, shotgun shells, more specifically slugs. Solid metal, which is more of a rifle attribute than a shotgun. Thus, it would use shotgun ammo...but at the same time, it's a rifle.
It's more of a middle ground sort of deal.
I still want one, though...I love the Failchester. -
People are to lazy to master any gun other than the AK-47/74, since everyone and their aunt thinks it is the best gun (odd how the thompson requires more skill yet it is the noob cannon, stupidity ftw. -.-) regardless of "recoil" WHICH THERE IS NONE OF! If you want a real AK recoil controlling game, go play A.V.A, it has by far one of the best realistic AK's, not this junkpile on crossfire, it has no recoil issues, you just burst, takes a ton of skill I know (-.- idiots) but that doesn't make it the best gun, I kill more AK users with my temporary Mp7 1v1 than anyone can, AK rage over.
Back to the point : Nobody will master a gun, every single person on here that whines is to lazy to actually get used to a gun, they see it as : "Oh this gun works auhsome, looks auhsome, but I can't kill with it, what a failchester, hu hu hu, I made a funny word out of it, cuz it fails, hu hu."
Morons, use the gun, get skilled with it, come back, and if you whine about it, quit. If you hate it, then don't fricken use it, simple as THAT. No need to whine about it, we don't care, we don't want to know your opinion, and we could care less that you suck with every gun because you are unable to learn how to use it properly.

Its a hunting "RIFLE" not a shotgun and it does not fire like a shotgun in game or in real life due to the fact that it normally shoots .44-40 which is a solid round.
ON THE OTHER HAND if you wanted to make it into a shotgun your more than welcome to craft custom shells and load them with shotgun shot to make them fire "like a shotgun". Although i [DO NOT] recommend this to anyone without experience in loading your own ammo, Brazilians, Noobs In-game and IRL, and [Especially] people that didn't know this was a rifle. -

I respect your opinion but when you get down to it if you really wanted to fight about whats right and whats wrong:
The Winchester fires a .44-40 which is composed of a metal casing filled with: 40 grains of black powder, and a 200 grain bullet.
The SPAS-12 on the other hand fires a 12 gauge shotgun shell which is covered in a varying plastic and loaded with: Gunpowder, An over-powder wad, A shot wad, your type of shot depending on what your doing (in this case a slug or large metal round), and an over shot wad.
There is definitely a difference in the way the bullet is composed. -
I know it's a POS old gun, but a long arm rifle is not to be messed with. it is ABSURD how much damage this thing loses with range. I don't care if you're a 1/4 mile away, you get hit in the face with a .30 or .40 cal rifled slug and your days are over.

MP7 is way better than any gun in the game.I'm not sure if most of you haven't taken US History 1 yet, since the majority of you are twelve year olds. The winchester is a rifle, an old rifle as has been said over and over again, but a rifle none the less.

ive taken us history 1, however, you are wrong wit hone of the winchester guns. you see, there isn't just one winchester.

Wrong winchester was a long range rifle when it originally came out for hunters on the range or prarie. it was good for at least 200-300 meters if i remember correctly. It was a western gun Cf got confused when they put it in game it should actually way quicker and more long range and way more power. Same as the thompson its using 45 caliber rounds its power was immense but they gave it crappy power. But thats cf for u nerfing cool guns and leaving scrublites, m12s and everything else thats way overpowered alone and nerfing all the good guns.

Why did you have to point out Winchester is a company, now all the people who think the one in game is a shotgun will say "I TOLD YOU IT WAS A SHOTGUN".
And Winchester makes, earplugs and other hearing protection devices, scopes, outdoor clothing, and I think bi-pods and maybe tri-pods.
