The system of finding games needs to be revised!
Sorry, but this just keeps on coming up for me, even moreso following patches. Crossfire has to have one of the oddest systems for finding a game room out of all the online FPS games I have played, it requires you to join a server and then search through often tens of channels (if you have to search multiple servers) in order to find the game that you want to play.
My main personal example is for columbia - often perhaps only a single 13 rounder on the UK servers added together. This means me trawling through them in order to find it. (and hoping it exists). Similar circumstances exist for many of the less common maps (just see SubBase and Factory when it isnt a mission). For anyone wondering how this can be particularly annoying - I dont tend to spend my life on Egypt or EE and so most maps I play take a search for... (hours I will never get back).
So would it be possible to change how the servers organise the maps. At the moment you can only filter each channel individually. My proposal would be:
- When you enter a server the channel list should no longer read Channel 1, Channel 2 etc, but should read SnD1, SnD2, EM1, TD1, GM1 (as many of each as required by game traffic).
- Perhaps certain maps in each channel (allowing further filtering).
- Perhaps make the servers themselves filtered, so create a perhaps dual SnD and EM server, then one for Escape and MM and so on. This would help to even out server traffic and give a constant population to some of the currently empty servers (such as UK3).
Thoughts?
