Recording you're DVDs

So*this*is*going*to*be*a*guide*on*how*to*record*DVDs*using*either*free*or*torrented*apps

Note:*this*should*only*be*for*your*personal*use*as*to*either*backup*your*DVDs*or*to*be*able*to*make*them*mobile!!*This*should*not*be*use*to*make*multiple*Copys*to*give*to*friends*or*to*sell*as*this*is*illegal*and*canresult*in*5*years*or*more*of*jail*and*or*a*fine*of*$250,000

you*will*need*the*following*applications/hardware

1.*DVD*drive
2.*Windows*media*player*(newest*version*for*your*comp*would*be*nice*not*just*for*this)
3.*Fraps*(retail,*so*will*probably*need*to*torrent,*I*might*post*mine*up*here,*no******needed)*or*any*other*recording*software*that*can*record*at*30fps
4.*For*a*full*movie,*will*need*at*least*60gb*free*hard*drive*space,*or*4gb*for*sections*at*the*least,*fraps*will*only*save*files*at*a*max*of*3.9gb,*but*will*keep*recording,*making*new*files)
5.*Finally,*a*video*editing*software,*with*rendering*abilities*(I*use*a*torrented*Sony*Vegas*with*a*****)

ok*now*for*the*recording

insert*your*DVD*into*the*DVD*drive,*if*a*window*pops*up,*cancel*without*doing*anything*yet
open*up*fraps,*turn*off*fps*overlay*in*the*first*window,*go*to*movies*and*make*it*30*fps,*because*this*is*the*max*iPod*will*handle,*and*at*which*most*dvds*run.*Also*uncheck*the*box*by*"show*cursor",*so*you*wont*have*to*worry*about*it.*minimize*fraps,*don't*push*the*x,*it*will*completely*close*it,*the*default*key*to*start*recording*is*f9
now*open*windows*media*player*to*start*playing*the*DVD,*when*you*get*to*your*starting*point,*pause*it*and*put*it*in*full*screen,*when*you're*ready*to*record,*play*the*movie*and*press*f9,*and*you*will*start*recording.
this*is*where*it*will*split*depending*on*if*you're*recording*the*whole*movie*at*one*time,*or*in*sections

1.*For*one*time,*when*the*movie*ends,*press*f9*to*stop*the*recording.*Now*open*it*up*in*your*video*editing*app,*go*to*file,*and*click*either*export*or*render,*here*is*the*tricky*part*for*me*to*describe*unless*you*have*sony*Vegas*7,*which*is*what*this*will*go*by,*and*will*be*easiest.*In*Vegas*7,*you*can*select*the*.mp4*file*extension,*then*select*iPod*640/480*or*close*to*that,*which*is*the*exact*codec*iPod*uses*if*you*want*to*transfer*to*you're*iPod.*If*you*aren't*using*Sony*Vegas,*post*a*ss*of*the*render*window*and*I'll*try*to*tellyou*what*to*post*in*each*area.*Once*you*have*selected*the*codec,*you*start*the*rendering.*Once*that*is*done,*you*can*now*delete*the*fraps*video,*and*can*transfer*the*rendered*video*to*most*iPods,*or*you*can*watch*it*on*your*computer,*but*not*in*fullscreen*because*it*is*only*a*640/480*video*and*will*be*stretched

2. For section recording, first figure how much free space you have, you must have at least 4gb, I recommend 12gb plus, start the recording (f9) and keep recording, it will stop automatically when it runs out of space with a message telling you so, and you will most likely have to delete the last clip to have enough space for the rendered video. push ok on that message. Now open up your video editing app and put in all the clips you got recorded, and render it as described above, after it's done, delete the fraps video. Start recording where it left off and keep on doing this over and over till you have the whole movie. Then take the rendered videos and combine them, and render them to make one file, and delete them, and now you have the movie to put on your iPod or to watch on your computer
