I think it could depend on where you live. Over here where I live nothing really ever happens.
I know tons of kids with knifes and guns and stuff, though I doubt any of them have them ever use them. Though in other areas it could be pretty bad, so a weapon might be necessary -

Up here in Canada we live peaceful lives without guns and If we ever get into fights, we'll use our fists instead of being a panzie and pulling out a gun. Significantly lower gun-related death and crime rates ftw? -

I'm all for armed citizens as long as they're the right ones. Chances are the average person isn't going to need a gun to keep themselves safe. -

here in the UK, when we kill each other it isn't often gun crime, its more knife crime.
even if you take away the means for someone to kill somebody, they will often find an alternative.
I'm saying, it really doesn't make a difference. if its legal or not. People are still going to kill each other. -
