clearly if nobody is helping him and i tell him the exact opposite information, i am making myself looking stupid. i did it on purpose... like i would help a random out on a gaming forum about calculus. psh
So your idea of fun is publicly humiliating yourself? To each his own I guess. -

Nope, I just don't understand why posting false info is funny or clever. Hell, you didn't even troll effectively. Seems like you're trying much too hard.
because deadeye had to post a response...
kid was confused at first
it's not funny, i just like to mess with people -
Can't do 7 atm cuz I need paper to work out the proof and we're not allowed any on the floor for security purposes. So I'll do 6i for ya, which btw is way to easy... makes me think I must be doing something wrong (which is highly unlikelyI'm stuck on 6i and 7 atm.
1-5 so far done it.
)
basic kinematics tells us:
v2=v1+at
We know v1 is 0, since it started from rest. Hence, v=at in this case. Substitute into formula.
at=.36t^2 - .024t^3
Factor out t.
at=t(.36t-0.024t^2)
Divide by t
a=.36t-024t^2
technically done, but we used to get bonus points for simplifying.
a=.12t(3-0.2t)
Feel free to double check, did this all in my head in like 2 min between calls. -
Yeah i did 6i nowGreen_Ranger wrote: »Can't do 7 atm cuz I need paper to work out the proof and we're not allowed any on the floor for security purposes. So I'll do 6i for ya, which btw is way to easy... makes me think I must be doing something wrong (which is highly unlikely

Thought there was more to it but i cheked mark scheme and all there was was
0.72t-.072t^2
EDIT:
you did 6ii which i already did

Ok here's 10. (Real easy)
v=d/t
so for Dude1, its v=140/t, t=140/v
for dude 2 its, v+5=140/t, t=140/v+5
ii. Easy. Formula shows T1-T2=1/4, where T1 is dude1's time and T2 is dude2's time. Dude2 is going faster, hence a smaller time, and the difference is 1/4 (15 min).
ok, Last part is just alot of expansion/simplification
for simplicity, lets have a=v, b=v+5
140/a - 140/b = 1/4
multiply by 4
560/a - 560/b = 1
add 560/b to both sides
560/a=1 + 560/b
Multiply both sides by a
560 = a(1+560/b)
Expand
560 = a + 560a/b
subtract a from both sides.
560-a = 560a/b
Multiply both sides by b
b(560 - a)= 560a
Expand
560b - ab = 560a
subtract 560a from both sides.
560b- ab - 560a = 0
Substitute a=v and b=v+5
560(v+5) - (v)(v+5) - 560v
expand
560v + 2800 - v^2 -5v -560v = 0
-v^2 - 5v +2800 = 0
Switch over (cuz no one likes starting with a - )
0=v^2 + 5v -2800
Done.
*note* this coulda been done in (alot) fewer steps, just expanded to show why.
