I wont go into detail to much so I'll try to make this pretty quick. That isn't going to affect computer speed, RAM affects computer speed. It's things you have open at the time of use which lowers that.
Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete
Go to Processes
Select one
End process
Smart way: Google each process name and find out what they do and if windows will crash without it.
...Other way: Close them all in order find out which ones make everything crash. Restart, try again, and don't F with the ones that crash everything.
Tip: Don't worry there is absolutely NOTHING that can't be restored after a start up if anything goes crazy when you close things. Also you need Explorer.exe it's what makes....nvm just don't get rid of that, it makes everything go blank. If you do, just restart and it'll be fine again.
But the best way to fix it is to buy more ram . You can get some pretty sweet deals on Pc parts here if you wanna upgrade.

Aaand finally, if you actually just wanted space for storage. I don't really see much you can get rid of other then Wizards 101 -
performancedamn is that windows 2000?
delete mcafee it consumes a lot of system resources and offers crap protection.
This information comes from both my own testing and from many respected white hat hacker based organizations.
Avira + commodo firewall (no need for its anti virus) are the best free combination
open start menu and type cmd when it appears right click and run as administrator
copy and paste the following in this screen
del %temp% /s /q /a
defrag /C /H /V
ipconfig/release
Ipconfig/flushdns
ipconfig/renew
shutdown -r
afterwords I recommend downloading installing and running ccleaner
