Suggestion for a 1v1 Ladder system - Feedback please.

The current 1v1 system is pretty basic. It's a single elimination 1 versus 1 type system. Some people may like that, some may not. What about modifying it to a long-term ladder with a points system? Nothing too complicated. See if I can get you guys to follow.

Based on the number of players, there will be divisions separating higher ranked players and lower ranked players. Everyone of course would start out at the bottom in the beginning.

Division 1 - Everyone starts here. Start of league, new players - With a baseline of 500 points
  • Division 1 = Up to 800 points
  • Division 2 = Up to 1,500 points
  • Division 3 = Up to 2,500 points
And so on and so forth. Actual numbers probably would be different than these.

Gaining points/Losing points
  • Points that are gained or lost depending on who wins/loses a match.
  • If the lower ranked player wins a game, then the lower ranked player gains a specified amount of points, while the higher ranked player loses a specified amount of points.
  • The higher the points difference between the two players, determines the amount of points gained/lost in the match.
Points Difference Between Players
  • 0-50 points:
    - If lower ranked player wins: He/she gains 25 points while the higher ranked player loses 25 points.
    - If higher ranked player wins: He/she gains 25 points while the lower ranked player loses 25 points.
  • 51-100 points:
    - If lower ranked player wins: He/she gains 30 points while the higher ranked player loses 30 points.
    - If higher ranked player wins: He/she gains 20 points while the lower ranked player loses 20 points.
  • 101-150 points:
    - If lower ranked player wins: He/she gains 35 points while the higher ranked player loses 35 points.
    - If higher ranked player wins: He/she gains 15 points while the lower ranked player loses 15 points.
  • 151-200 points:
    - If lower ranked player wins: He/she gains 40 points while the higher ranked player loses 40 points.
    - If higher ranked player wins: He/she gains 10 points while the lower ranked player loses 10 points.

I haven't gotten much farther into the details of a rule set, but give me some feedback on what you guys think of a ladder/points system like this. This could be something that could run all the time with enough help.
